It was in the Marshall Medical Center dining hall that I soon realized what I wanted my career to be. A group of students sat patiently, eating snacks provided by the hospital staff until the medical professionals arrived. Suddenly, a radiologist entered, along with a diagnostic medical sonographer, an ER nurse, and a nurse anesthetist. They spoke about their career, the professionals described their working hours, some extremely long with almost no time for their families but a huge salary, others, with reasonable hours and a fair paycheck. It was in that classroom that I realized I wanted to major in Ob Gyn sonography I realize there is a long path and hard work is required to enter this specific field.

To enter this field, I realize there are many prerequisites Firstly, I would first have to take my basics here at Gadsden State Community College and after completing my pre-requisite classes to enter the program, I would then, submit my application. After the application process, only forty will be selected and in phase II only twenty will be in the class. If I were to be admitted I would have to complete a 76-hour Comprehensive Diagnostic Medical program which covers the abdomen, small parts, Ob Gyn, and vascular. The Ob Gyn would be what I would be more focused on, which would be caring for the baby inside the womb and informing the physicians and mothers of the progress of the pregnancy and alerting issues with the internal organs using ultrasound technology. I believe this career will allow me to reach my personal and professional goals by allowing me to share the word of the lord to families in times of devastation, expand my medical knowledge while contemplating the lord’s wonderful works, and to provide professional care to mothers as well as alerting medical issues in time using ultrasound technology.

I would love to share the word of the lord to expecting mothers in need for according to the United Nations Children's fund and the World health organization, an estimated 2.8 million pregnant women and newborns die every year. The heartbreaking case of Carolyn Spiro-Levitt states she gave birth to a son at just 23 weeks, the mother describes him as being beautiful and in the image of her husband. She longed for him very dearly as they waited for him to arrive, they were informed by doctors that she had an incompetent cervix meaning her cervix opened prematurely and her baby would be lost. Levitt states in her article “As tragically as we lost him, we were surprised to learn that a simple ultrasound or check of the cervix a few weeks earlier could have made all the difference.” I believe to prevent tragedies like these it is important to care for women and for those in cases like these share the gospel knowing that the word of the lord is the best medicine for the heart and is important for heartbroken families and devastated mothers.

I would also love to perform this career because it would be amazing to use ultrasound technology for analyzing the embryo’s skull and physical development. As Psalm 139 states, “For it was you who formed my inward parts; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; that I know very well.”  I believe it would be a lifechanging experience and I would try to provide professional and quality care to women in the best of my ability and will continue to earn more and expand my knowledge of the lord’s wonderful works while aiding many mothers who await the wonderful being inside of their womb.

Lastly, through the use of my career I would aid in informing the mother in the progress of the pregnancy which is actually very important. Ultrasound technicians or Ob Gyn sonographers are amongst the very first to see the baby, then they pass the information to the radiologists. Knowing to use and understand what is portrayed in the ultrasound screen is extremely important. If one lacks the knowledge required one could miss small details that could signify medical issues in the fetus that would result in premature death or complication at time of delivery. An ultrasound technician also determines the type of birth the mother would need, either c-section, or natural birth. With the help of the lord and proper training I would love to help many pregnant women for the glory of my Lord and would make sure that their baby grows in good condition and no complications are found during birth.

In conclusion, through the use of this career I would accomplish my personal goals which are to share the word of the lord to families in times of devastation, expand my medical knowledge while contemplating the Lord’s wonderful works, and to provide professional care to mothers as well as alerting medical issues in time using ultrasound technology. I acknowledge this is all hard work, but I am confident with the lord and very hopeful that if I pass this class and fulfill my other classes, I will develop the necessary skills and provide the most tender and caring service to those in great need.
