When someone we love dies we attend their funeral, pay our respect, and place a rose on their casket as a symbol of love. In the story A rose for Emily William Faulkner develops the concept of a woman, Miss Emily, who isolates herself and is miso nimious for change in her future. The concept develops from the death of her father, Her social status, and her romantic relationship. The title a rose for Emily symbolizes the sorrow and guit the reader feels for Emily and when fnihsed they will give her the pittiful rose on her casket; for the love she was unable to find.

First, the death of Emily’s father showed the start to her isolated and misonimoious behavior because of the large role her father had in her life. “The young men her father had driven away, and we knew that with nothing left, she would have to cling to that which had robbed her, as people will (Faulkner).” In the text Faulkner uses a metaphoric robbery to describe the role of her father and the protection he gave and the reaction of Emily. Her Father, like most fathers, believes their daughters are too good for any man. But he was unable to tell Emily she can marry who she loves. Her attachment to her father hada huge impact on how she continued to live the reat of her life. She was in such distress from his death she was unable to live in the present.

Additionally, the people of Jefferson have set Miss Emily on a pedestal (not in a good way), Because of how disconnected she is from their small southern town, This leads to them being very curious about her life. “She carried her head high enough-even when we believed that she had fallen...she demanded more than ever the recognition of her dignity as the last Grierson (Faulkner).” Miss. Emily had a lot of Pride, because she was not ubiquitous, it led the people of Jefferson to view her as an idea more than a person. Faulkner uses few  laconic words to describe her personality. Words such as demanded, carried, and recognition. All portray that she demanded the respect she felt she deserves, and the people of Jefferson owe her. Though at this moment of the story she is seen as inferior she still continues to show her superior mentality.

Finally, the Romantic Relationship between Miss Emily and Homer represents her isolated and misonimoious behavior because she is unable to let go of the fact that he had died and she continued to sleep in the same bed with his remains.“Once laid in the attitude of an embrace, but now the long sleep that outlasts love, that conquers even the grinance of love, had cockloaded him (Faulkner).” Faulkner shows that Emily is unable to let Homer go because of unable to let go. Emily cannot cope with the death of some she loves because she diesnt want to lose them. Since Homer is already dead she never has to fear losing him.
