A World Without Emotions in Fahrenheit 451 Essay Example

“You must remember, burn them or they’ll burn you, '' he thought. Right now it’s as simple as that” (Bradbury 123). This is the way that Bardbury sees the world and his views on our new generation with technology. In Ray Bradbury’s story “Fahrenheit 451” tells the story of Montag, a fireman who is opened up to the idea that books can be good and that society is being controlled by his new neighbor, which influences the way that he sees his world.  Montag and his society reveal the ideas and views of Bradbury and the ways that he sees the real world. He thinks without emotion towards things people/society is easier to control and much easier to persuade into thinking what others want you to think. 

First of all the setting of “Fahrenheit 451” shows and exposes how isolated the people of the society are and how they can be controlled so easily. Also how they don't have an opinion or emotion. In the story montag and beatty are having a conversation about how his job as a firefighter is important, and how he is required to burn the books. Beatty says “You must understand that our civilization is so vast that we cant have our minorities upset and stirr” (Bradbury 58). With this Bradbury explains and expresses how they don't want to make people mad or frustrated with books to make a so-called “perfect” life. And this just leads to people being controlled and society not having emotion towards things anymore. On the same page Beatty also says, “We must all be alike. Not everyone is born free and equal, as the constitution says, but everyone is made equal. Each man is the image of every other; then all are happy, for there are no mountains to make them cower, to judge themselves against” (Bradbury 58). Society is trying to make everyone feel the exact same way so nobody feels left out, or does not have as much value. But instead this makes this society so dry and easily controlled. Also in the story the whole city is trying to find Motag, the one rebel that is going against the government. Then Montag hears, “‘At the count of ten now! One! Two!’ He felt the city rise. ‘Three!’ he felt the city turn to its thousands of doors. Faster! Leg up, leg down! ‘Four!’ The people sleepwalking in their hallways. ‘Five!’ He felt their hands on the doorknobs!” (Bradbury 138) Everybody is being controlled by just the radio, and they are doing everything that it is telling them to do without hesitation. Because they have absolutely no emotion and showing how one rebel is a huge threat to society. 

Secondly the characters in the book reveal how some people saw through the system and saw how they were being controlled, and how without the emotion being controlled can become a reality. In the story Montag and Beatty are having a conversation about how books are bad and also how many people fear books because of what they have heard. Beatty says, “So now you see why books are hated and feared. They show the pores in face to face life” (Bradbury 79). This shows why books are burnt and not kept around, people fear them because they show real world problems that people don’t want to get exposed to. Faber and Montag are having a conversation about how the world doesn’t want anyone to feel left out, but only few people can see how they are being controlled and how they are corrupted. “No, said Montag. My wife is dying. A friend of mine has already died. Someone who may have been a friend was burnt less than 24hrs ago. You’re the only one I knew might help me . Too see, too see” (Bradbury 81). There is nobody standing with the books because the government had a bad image of them and is either too scared to admit that they like books, or that they are being controlled or heavily influenced by the government. In the story Beatty and Montag are having a deep conversation about how books are bad and how they can have a bad influence on you can if you trust them too much they can turn on you. Beatty says,“What traitors books can be! You think they’re backing you up, and then they turn on you. others can use them, too, and there you are, lost in the middle of the moor, in a great welter of nouns and verbs and adjectives” (Bradbury 104). Books are seen as bad things like they won't be there for you or have the information that you need to be a better person. And society sees them as useless and not important, because of the influence of the government and fear of the firefighters.

Finally Being controlled can be angering, and you might not get what you want but it's what you will have to get. This is what could happen if we stop reading, and lose emotion towards things just to have that perfect life where nobody gets hurt. Now think of the emotions that you have for the people that you love, that could get taken away from you if this shows up in the real world.
