It is an honor to have support from my teachers to be a candidate for membership in the National Honor Society. I would be extremely grateful to join a prestigious organization such as NHS because of the limitless opportunities it would present to me. If I got to join NHS I would be able to grow as a person and hopefully help others grow as well. NHS would also boost my chances of getting into a top university and obtaining scholarships. As a student, I have proven to possess great examples of scholarship, leadership, service, and character that qualify me to be part of NHS.

I consider myself to be an adequate scholar because I always push myself to excel in all of my classes. By having a GPA of 4.0 as a freshman, and as of now a GPA of 4.175, I consider myself to be an exemplary example of an outstanding student. In the future, I hope to take honors and AP classes to help expand my knowledge and to prepare me for the challenging classes I want to take in college. In the past, as a middle school student, I have made my way to the honor roll every year, which proves my eagerness to perform at the highest possible level I can. Plus, throughout my education, I have received awards for outstanding work in Social Studies, English, Science, Math, and Spanish which demonstrates the hard work I accomplish in all my classes. Hopefully, by getting into NHS I can join top universities and learn from incredible professors.

In addition to being a scholar, I also play an important role as a leader. Growing up I have played many different sports and have strived to be a marvelous example of a captain in every single one. If I ever saw a teammate needing help I would act immediately and use my leadership skills to cheer them up. Another quality of a great leader is incredible problem-solving skills. On-campus, I have faced many different problems from bullying to severe emergencies. Any time I am face-to-face with a problem I am quick to come up with a solution, one example is when there was a lockdown at our school. During that crisis I noticed a classmate scared and upset, I immediately went over to comfort her and tell her everything was okay. I distracted her from her surroundings and made sure to check in with an adult, showing I can act calmly in intense situations, a superb quality of a leader. I prove to be a trailblazer not only on campus but also off-campus. At my work as a kennel assistant, I have demonstrated to be reliable when accepting responsibility. I look after people's pets and make sure they get the care they need, proving my capability of being responsible. Also, I can step up when the time is needed, such as when a nurse needs help when taking blood, giving a shot to a patient, or when training a new employee. These are great examples of a leader to display how one needs to be prepared to conquer any task at any time. If I am admitted as an NHS member, I will further gain more knowledge on how to advance my leadership skills.

Service is also an important part of my life. I have taken part in many different services, from assisting my neighbors to the whole world. One type of service I provide is local, I help my neighbors whenever they need it because I believe that everyone deserves a helping hand. An example is yard work, the neighborhood can get messy, raking leaves and picking up fallen branches from trees can make a big difference and also put a smile on my neighbors’ faces. Another way I provide service is environmental, I am always free to lend a hand and pick up trash on the beach whenever I can. Ever since I was young my family and I would bring a trash bag on our beach trips so we could pick up every piece of trash we found. I also contribute to the Save Our Shores beach cleanups, a great organization that has kept over 15 tons of trash out of Monterey Bay. Just by enjoying a great day on the beach and picking up some trash I, with luck, save innocent animals from dying and fight back against pollution. From helping clean up my neighborhood to the ocean I prove to show great service to Felton and the world. Joining NHS will help me get into a great college where I can learn more about the environment and go into a work field that helps fight climate change.

Lastly, character concludes the four hallmarks of NHS’s qualifications. It is useless to show outstanding scholarship, leadership, and service only to poison it with foul behavior. I demonstrate high standards of honesty, reliability, maturity, and integrity throughout my actions. I am honest and would never lie to make people like me or to seem smarter. As well, I am extremely reliable and can be counted on to handle big responsibilities like taking care of animals as stated before. As I have grown I have become more and more mature and continue to take on adult responsibilities while always being professional in school and at work. Integrity is something I have always shined at, I do not need attention whenever I do something good. Furthermore, in and out of school I make sure to respect people and their opinions despite if I disagree with them. Additionally, I hold myself accountable to follow the rules and will always comply with any directions given to me. If NHS will have me I believe it will increase my passion for maintaining my remarkable character.

I trust that with my abilities and expertise I will contribute to NHS most effectively and expand all of my skills. During this essay, I have proven to show my academic skills and how formidable of a scholar I am. Moreover, I explained that in my life I am a leader to my peers. Plus, the service I have provided for the community has been exquisite and I hope to continue helping the environment heal. Finally, my character has depicted marvelous examples of what an NHS member should look like. I meet all the expectations of NHS to the fullest extent and I have proven my ambition and desire to join NHS.
