Admission Essay Sample: Rutgers Business School

I Believe the Diverse Environment, Relevant Curriculum, and Internship Opportunities at Rutgers Business School will help me to Become a Marketing Executive. 

When I was told by my mom that we will be migrating to America on September 15, 2018, a lot of thoughts were running through my mind, one of which was the continuation of my academic career which prompted me to research colleges within the state of New Jersey.  I read about a lot of colleges and asked my family members who already lived in America about schools I was interested in. Based on the information I read online and feedback I got from my family members Rutgers was my top pick for numerous reasons but let’s focus on the top three.  Firstly, in attaining a Rutgers education I will be exposed to a diverse environment which is great given that it is a true reflection of the working world. Secondly, the marketing curriculum that Rutgers offers will help to equip me with the necessary skills to function as a marketing graduate outside of the classroom. Lastly, speaking of function outside of the classroom Rutgers university is an institution that believes in helping students to gain potential employment after graduation through means of internships. Therefore, knowing that a Rutgers education embodies all these qualities and more I believe being taught in this environment will tremendously help to mold me into the multi-faceted marketing executive, I will be within five to six years after working within the marketing field.

Without a doubt, being taught within an environment that is diverse will contribute to how I function in the field of marketing given that it will help me to understand and appreciate cultural differences. For instance, if I am working on a marketing campaign for a Chinese brand given the environment that I was taught in at Rutgers to appreciate and understand cultural differences. Naturally, I would have already been aware of some if not all of what is accepted within Chinese culture from what is not. Of course, having cultural knowledge to my advantage the marketing campaign will be unique for the country of China and as such making it effective. Being taught in a diverse environment is not the only thing that will help me to achieve my career goal of being a marketing executive, but the curriculum offered at the school.

Certainly, attending a school that is committed to leading academic excellence given the curriculum that the school offers which are developed to be relevant and a reflection of the working world which will prepare me for the ever-changing field of marketing.  As I mentioned earlier,  I did a lot of research about Rutgers which revealed the school in question offers marketing case competition which I think is great because it will help us as students to understand and appreciate the importance of working as a team, improving our decision-making abilities, to creatively solve issues within the business field, as well as out of the box approach to the field of business.  Although, the marketing case is not a part of the marketing curriculum the skills and knowledge that I will gain by the time I am a Rutgers Business School senior will help me to be a functional member of a team. Without a doubt, participating in the marketing case competition and winning would be a great contributing factor in achieving my career goal of being a marketing executive given that it demonstrates to potential employers that I have invaluable expertise and unparalleled skills.

Speaking of employers R.B.S offers internship opportunities which are wonderful because graduates have difficulties getting a job that is fitting to their degree. So, given the internship opportunities offered I will be able to gain first-hand experience which will improve my hiring potential. Worth mentioning the location of two of the campuses are in the tri-state area which will give me easy access to companies in New Jersey and New York for internship opportunities at marketing houses. Taking all of this into consideration demonstrates to me that Rutgers University’s focus is not a financial gain but on its students whether it provides opportunities for a potential place of employment.  Worth mentioning though it is not guaranteed internship opportunities give me a foot in the door to achieve my career goal within the marketing field.

As the eldest of my mother’s three children, I always try to lead by example regardless of how simple the situation may seem. Taking this into consideration, getting accepted to Rutgers Business School will demonstrate to my younger siblings that if you have a goal, stick to it, do the required work and it will pay off. So, seeing their older sibling throughout the nights and days while doing a part-time job, finding new approaches to learn a difficult subject and tearful days display to them the road to success will not always be easy but success will come. Certainly, getting accepted into Rutgers Business School will be a great contributing factor as it relates to my career journey of becoming a Marketing Executive given the environment Rutgers offers to its students. Also, a Rutgers education will help me to achieve other goals  I have which some might call the other aspect of the American Dream such as social mobility.
