Admission Essay Sample: University of Wisconsin-River Falls

I am applying for the MBA program at UWRF because I know it will greatly enhance the knowledge and wisdom that I have already acquired over the many years in business with help from previous employers and academia. I am confident that this MBA program will not only fill my knowledge and wisdom gaps, but will also allow to me to perform with confidence and excellence in the next level in my life and career

My decision to apply for an MBA program was not take lightly. I have recently moved to River Falls because I started a new job as a Technical Sales Engineer. With my back ground and references, I was asked if I would be interested in higher levels of management at the corporate level. I have thought about it long and hard and I realized that I needed to obtain an MBA so I could be properly prepared to perform at the next level. I discussed getting an MBA with past professors and presidents of companies that I have worked for and with. They enthusiastically supported my decision to obtain my MBA and will help me in achieving this goal. This would be my short term to goal to move up to the corporate level.

My long-term goal would be to have a very successful career at the executive level with the final goal of moving into academia. I know I would enjoy teaching at the university level because I have had great professors, who I admire and still am friends with today, and professional contacts who have supported me throughout my career. I have been very fortunate in life to have had professionals keep pushing me to perform and learn at the highest levels. I have had many years of being able to teach others new skills in the business world. When a person would struggle with learning a new skill I would change my training approach that would best fit their learning style. I also have been able to show people where their strongest skills are even when they were not aware of them. I guess I have always taken great pride in helping people learn skills they never thought they would be capable of learning. One thing that I have learned in life is that everyone, including myself, can perform at much higher levels than they are aware of.

The benefits that I would bring to my fellow students would be that I enjoy collaboration on projects while possessing a strong team work mentality. There is not one person in industry who can make a company successful by themselves, it takes teams of people working together to achieve success. When working as a team I try to work with people who have stronger skills in areas where my skills are lacking. When dealing with people it is important to recognize their personality traits so you know how to interact with them, I am a ENTJ personality. I would be looking forward to meeting new upcoming leaders in business while learning and growing with them. I would bring a mindset of,” am I better person today than I was yesterday?” and share that with my fellow classmates.

There is a saying that the first impression is most important which I do not agree with. If a person is having a bad day or something negative going on in their life they will not make a good first impression, so now I try to overlook first impressions. 'This Is Water' By David Foster Wallace was one of my most thoughtful and inspiring assignments in college. One of my other great influences is Dale Carnegie because business is not about money but how you can help to lift others up to the next level. Not just on monetary terms, but on a personal level that will allow them to achieve goals they never thought they could.
