Advantages of Social Media for Teenagers

Around 81% of teens said that social media feel like they are closer to their friends (Notopoulos). Social media is also a great option for advertisements to get seen. Because of this, I believe that social media is more beneficial than risky for teens because you can meet new people, create positive experiences and can advertise information.

One good thing about social media is that it exposes you to all different types of people. You are able to see other people's point of views on the world. For example, 67% of people say that they have been able to find a new point of view (Notopoulos). People are able to meet people with different ethnicities and understand them more. Also, Redefy, a company made to spread awareness of prejudice, allows all kinds of people to talk about all of their different experiences with prejudice to others that are in the same situation (Paoletta). In addition, 69% of people say that social media helps them become friends with a more diverse group of people (Notopoulos).

Another good thing about social media is that it can create positive experiences with your friends. I have had times when because of social media, my friends and I were able to arrange a time when we could meet up and go downtown together. For example, girls who are in a group, 24% of them say that that group played a major part in getting them through a rough time (Notopoulos). This means that groups of friends can give you help if you need it just by reaching out to you through social media. Also, an artist receives many positive comments on his pictures that are much greater than the bad comments from all around the world (Rheaves). Along with that, teens say it plays a positive role in their lives and around 69% of the teens say social media makes them less insecure and more confident (Notopoulos). This means that they are more likely to have positive times than negative ones.

The final reason I have is that social media is an exceptional way to advertise and spread information about a product. Social media is an easier way to show off your new products. Also, a 17 year old named Celso started posting his music looking to get noticed by major record labels and other musicians so that they could collaborate (Rheaves) This shows that it is possible for you to get into major collaborations and deals all through just posting a video. Along with that, teenage girls inspire other girls to spread awareness on mental wellness and self-care (“Teens Using Social Media For Good Deeds").

All in all, I think that social media is beneficial for today’s teens because you can meet other people, create memorable times with friends and can spread information about a product. Although you might not think social media friends are real friends, it still allows you to have the ability to encounter other people that could end in a serious relationship. It also has helped me organize many meetings between my friends and I. Hundreds of thousands of artists post on social media as a way to gain an audience and name recognition.
