In today's society, Many people have been seeking cures for their illnesses due to a lack of financial resources to pay for Hospital bills. This Act that we will be discussing has the potential to change the way things used to be. So, what is RA 8423? The Traditional and Alternative Medicine Act of 1997 also known as RA 8423 enacts provisions for the promotion, control, and regulation of traditional and alternative medicine practice, as well as the establishment of the Traditional and Alternative Health Practice Council and other related matters. This Act will promote and advocate the use of traditional, alternative, and curative medicine, not only because it is effective, but also because it is affordable to many people. You shouldn't be concerned about its safety because it will be tested in a laboratory before being made available to the general public.

Our country has been classified as one of several countries with biodiverse natural resources. Traditional medicine, which has been passed down from generation to generation, has become important in our healthcare system, regardless of the medical treatment proposed by Western nations, which is ridiculously expensive for Filipinos living in poverty. For instance, Do you recall our grandparents or parents using guava leaves to heal our wounds or ease our stomach aches? Yes, that is traditional medicine. Other people, such as those in the United States, usually go to hospitals to treat such things, whereas in our country, we sometimes rely on traditional medicine because we cannot afford hospital expenses.

This law will have a massive impact on indigenous societies once it is implemented. Medical plants are well-known in many indigenous cultures since they are used to treat various illnesses. These plants have been used by them for decades. With their knowledge of traditional remedies that many people are unaware of, this can be extensively shared to a large number of people, but it must be confirmed and tested safe by professionals. In exchange, we can provide financial assistance to those who produce traditional remedies.

Some may wonder, "What if others take advantage of this act and use it to trick consumers into buying their unsafe products?" The only response is that they may face jail time as a result of their actions. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) must first verify that it is safe before it can be offered to the general public.
