Analysis of Psalm 8 Essay Example

In my opinion, Psalm 8 is one of the most beautiful chapters in the entire book of Psalm. The poem starts off by saying, “ Lord our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the Earth”. This phrase can be seen towards the end of the chapter as well. By starting the poem off with this saying, it establishes the tone that God is the most important being to ever exist. Towards the end of verse one, David states that “God’s Glory is all over the skies”. This means that God’s works and creations are visible everywhere we go. When we look up to the skies we can be reminded of how powerful God is and how he created everything. In verses three and four, David elaborates on this idea: “When I consider thy heavens the work of thy fingers, the moon and the stars, which thou hast ordained; What is man that thou art mindful of him? and the son of man, thou that visitest him?” In these verses, David is referencing the creation story from Genesis. Before God had created humans, he created the heavens, the moon, and the stars. This leaves David wondering why God cares for humans so much. When he looks up to the sky he is reminded of his creator, but also how powerless he is compared to Him. When considering how David feels powerless and insignificant, it kind of contrasts what he says in verse two when he's talking about babies and mothers exhibiting strength. Verse five then mentions that although God is much stronger than us, he fills us with Glory and honour making us feel like kings when in reality we are small, insignificant beings in the universe. Verses six, seven, and eight talk about the dominion mandate in Genesis, where God tells Adam and Eve to rule over the Earth. Throughout this entire poem he is basically in awe of God’s creations, and thanking Him for trusting humans to take care of the Earth.

Although Psalms as a whole is an amazing book in the bible, chapter eight really stood out to me. I chose this chapter, because it reminds me to cherish God’s creations, and respect Him for his strength and power. Even after Adam and Eve went against His word, He still takes care of and loves us; He is a kind and loving God. It also reminds me that God is always looking out for us and protecting us. Verse two talks about how he gives us strength when we are facing our enemies, no matter how strong. Some of the questions that David asks can be relatable even though it was written thousands of years ago. For example in verse four, David essentially asks why does God decide to love and protect us even when we disobey him? This thought has crossed my mind a few times, and overall this psalm definitely resonated with me.

I really enjoy the book of psalms. I appreciate how the entire book is in a poetry format; sometimes the Bible can become tedious, so this book is kind of like a breath of fresh air. There is a lot that can be learned from the Book of Psalms; It can teach us new ways to praise God, it can acknowledge the many times he's saved us in times of needs, and it can help us cherish him for all that he's done for us. Even when David was scared for his life and hiding in a cave, he was still praising God which teaches us the very important lesson that we should trust God with all of our problems no matter how extreme.

In conclusion, this Psalm can be a great reminder that God loves you and is always looking out for you.
