Analysis of Ronald Reagan's Eulogy by Margaret Thatcher Essay Sample

A former companion of Ronald Regan, Margaret Thatcher who used to be the prime minister of Great Britain, delivered a eulogy to Americans on their former president Ronald Regan whom Margret worked very closely with who is now dead. She speaks to these Americans about more than just Ronald Reagan as a president but as a person a friend and more than just a president. Margret Thatcher uses the emotional appeal of his living life to get the attention of the audience. She also uses the prior experiences in life to appeal to the audience and connect them to Ronald Reagan. 

She is arguing that Reagan is an adequate man who cared about the people, and he lived a long life of good things. The purpose is to get people to understand him more as a human, and a friend than just a president. She uses examples more like a friend than a president and examples of his life stories to get the point across. 

In lines 1-30 Margret Thater uses emotions to talk to the audience to try and give them this overall image of Ronald Reagan that most people wouldn't see unless they knew him personally. With people not knowing the real side of him, it is hard to try and give this imagery of him and Margret has to try and paint this picture of him to help America understand Reagan She uses emotions to talk to these people because she knows that they can all talk to them and she is using imagery by describing his jokes and the way that he was. People can all relate to being to having a friend and even losing a friend and they can understand what Margret is going through since this is something that happens to other people.  In lines, 16-20 Margret says "In terrible hours after the attempt on his life, his easygoing jokes fave reassurance to an anxious world" this quote shows that even when times got hard that Ronald was going to crack a joke and try and make things feel better and be better almost as if he coped with his problems using humor which is someone could listen to and relate to. I think the speaker using these kinds of strategies was a smart idea because most people go through something bad in their life and they either shut down, make jokes, or deal with it in another way which is why it was such a good escalated idea to use in the speech. 

In the second section of the speech lines, 35-65 Margret uses a logical view of pointing out previous wars a situation that Ronald Regan has been through, and the things that he has been through. She uses Ronald's personal experience and references to past wars to show what kind of guy he was. Line 36-40 she says " He won the cold war, not only without firing a shot but also by inviting enemies out of their fortress and turning them into friends" with her saying that it references him as a guy who cared about making the best out of bad situations in history. I think it was necessary to put how he solved political issues into it and how he tried to be the bigger person in these worldwide problems and disputes it shows that he was a real caretaker and problem solver. 

In section three with lines 65-95, she uses the morals of doing the right thing and being a good person to show the person that he was. They also use his national appeal in the speech because they know that all the people there already know and love him so they just go to say that being popular is going to win over the crowd. Line 90-95 they say " typically Ronald Reagan the large-hearted magnanimity and nothing was more America"  they loved him for his political stature and in lines 79-81 she says " he realized that a good man of goodwill nonetheless emerge from within his dark corries" saying that if a person is a good person they will always help and always be a good person which he was and what Margret was trying to get across. The quotes from the speaker males sense with the rhetorical uses for the reason that they were just trying to say that he was a good guy who believed in good people. 

In this eulogy, Margret the former prime minister of Great Britain delivers this speech at Ronald Reagan's funeral. Margret then goes on to talk about how he was the man of the people, and all-around a great American man. She tries to get the man that he was across in her speech and succeeded in the way that he was people's favorite president and they were miserable about it Margret made other people emotional and connect to him even though he was gone. She delivers this speech to a crowd of Americans who are eager to listen to what she has to say. The whole point of this is her trying to tell people that this man was a great man and also wanted the best for everyone and he was just an overall amusing guy.
