Annexation Of Hawaii is Good Argumentative Essay

Did you know that on August 21, 1959 Hawaii became a state? People are tour between if it was a good or bad thing. I think it was a good thing that the united states annexed Hawalli.

The first reason that there are many trade benefits from the annexed. According to the video it says, it was easier for ships to refuel and made it easier to resupply. there are even more trade benefits then these two. It gave the U.S a new item to trade the sugar plantation and it also gave the U.S access to trade routes to Asia. To add to that even more they did not have to pay tariffs. This shows that when the U.S annexed Hawaii there would be many trade benefits.

The second reason is if the U.S did not annex Hawaii some other county will. In the quote by John L. Stevens, United States Minister to the Kingdom of.“So long as the islands retain their own independent government there remains the possibility that England or the Canadian Dominion might secure one of the Hawaiian harbors for a coaling station…Annexation excludes all dangers of this kind.” Its talking about so long as Hawaii is independent other countries like England or Japan will take it and possibly use it for bad like war.

A final reason is the U.S needed Hawaii as a military base. It was it was a proximity to Asia. Which would make it easy to fight in was because it was closer to other countries in Asia like Russia and japan. It also Hawaii was key throughout the Spanish American war for military3 power. The military bases in Hawaii impact civilians as well and have created an estimate 100,000 civilian jobs across the many military bases across Hawaii’s islands. This gave Hawaii many jobs and have the U.S a place to be closer to Asia for the military. Because of the threat and need a naval base.

Although when the native people worked, they were played poorly. But before the U.S came there were not a lot of jobs so the native people should be thankful they got a job. In the text “The 50th state” it says it provided 50,00 services. They gave over 100,00 more jobs out then they are already. All the new people getting jobs means that they must pay all those people. Which would limit the money each person would get. There are some negatives and some positives but over all it was a good thing because they got more jobs.

To conclude I think it was a good thing the U.S annexed. The U.S brought jobs, trades, military bases and save Hawaii from another country. That’s why I think it was a good thing.
