Application letter for the 2021-2022 UNC-Chapel Hill MAT program

Dear admissions committee, 

Please accept my application for the 2021-2022 UNC-Chapel Hill MAT program. I believe my teaching experience, passion for teaching, and motivation to further my teaching skills make me a strong candidate for UNC-Chapel Hill's MAT program. I am excited to make a difference in the lives of learners. After researching various institutions, I feel your program is the perfect fit for me. I am very impressed by the prestige that your school has gained over the years along with the state of the art facilities and modern technology. I would be thrilled to have the opportunity to be a part of it. 

Although my original focus was Psychology and Anthropology, my time teaching abroad in Costa Rica and Vietnam has helped me to realize that my true passion lies in the field of Education. I have found teaching to be incredibly rewarding and am eager to further my knowledge in the field. I hope that the MAT program at UNC-Chapel Hill will help me to further the skills necessary to become an outstanding teacher within the North Carolina school system. 

During my time in Costa Rica, I worked at an international school with students aged 7-15 in subjects including English, Science, and Math. In addition, I taught academic and business English to adults. I learned how to prepare and deliver lesson plans along with how to effectively communicate and plan with others to best address students' needs. I also learned how to create a student-centered classroom and how to adapt my classroom based on learners' needs and skill sets.

At present, I'm teaching elementary school in Vietnam. I have continued to develop my teaching skills and have gained greater cultural awareness in effectively adapting to an extremely different culture and environment. I have learned how to instruct and manage classrooms with up to 60 students. My time teaching in Vietnam has taught me how to adapt my teaching approach based on student needs and skill levels. It has also taught me the importance of making education not only educational but fun by using games and interactive hands-on learning. 

Based on my unique teaching experiences and skills gained during my time teaching abroad, I believe I am a strong candidate for the MAT program at UNC-Chapel Hill. I find teaching to be incredibly fulfilling and have what it takes to be a positive addition to the educational system. Through my time teaching abroad, I have gained the skills and awareness necessary to make a positive change in my learners' lives. I hope that the MAT program at UNC-Chapel Hill will help me to further these skills and help me to become an outstanding teacher within the North Carolina school system.
