Social media can be dangerous for our kids, but with proper monitoring and regulations I believe it is a benefit. For one, social media consists mostly of reading. Which means it can help improve children's lexile. Moreover, it helps keep the world connected and increase global communication and globalization. These are all important factors in the world. However, the major draw back of social media on children is the fact that they spend their time online instead of outside thus increasing their physical health. The point I argue is that with the help of adult supervision, kids can be active in both the real world and in social media.

Many researches support that social media helps in the development of vocabulary in children, teens, and young adults. The British Journal of Education states that, "The findings of these studies have demonstrated the positive attitudes of language learners towards the use of social media in their learning process, suggesting that skills such as communication, writing, listening, and vocabulary knowledge can be improved through interacting via social media." This supports the argument that social media is a healthy habit for young children, even those under the age of 13 to 15. It helps build their communication skills while also teaching them valuable lessons that they may not have access to else where. The number of things you can learn with the internet is limitless, which definitely places it in the category of useful things.

Another reason that social media good, is that it helps with globalization, which in turn helps the world. Globalization helps countries and the citizen of them communication despite the vast distances. This allows for cultural integration, a very important subject. It is important to understand other cultures because it helps us become more open minded and be better problem solvers. Considering how other cultures and people think assist us in making healthier and wiser decisions, which is a lesson most parents would want their children to learn. Moreover, it is important for children to have greater knowledge of other cultures because it would keep them from insulting one without meaning to. In other words, knowing about different cultures around the world would help both the child and the rest of the world.

In conclusion, I believe that children should have access to social media as long as it is monitored and limited. In this day and age, it would be practically impossible to completely cut a child out of the online world, and unhealthy. Social media helps people learn and connect with each other, without the added cost of leaving the house or exposing yourself to possible physical risk. All in all, social media isn't something we should hid our kids from, but rather teach the dangers and risks of so they're ready for when it's a normal part of their lives.
