Guns. G-U-N 3 letters yet feared by so many. So does that make it right to take away our gun rights? I beg to differ, guns are our constitutional right and therefore shall not be infringed upon. According to WAMU in 2020, it was found that, “  The SAS estimates that American civilians own 393 million guns, ranking the U.S. number one in firearms per capita.” According to Google in 2019 there were 328.2 million guns in America. So my question is, if guns are so feared then why are there more guns in America than people? The answer to that question is because it is our right to own guns. Not only that but it is also ones right to protect themselves may that be with a gun.

It has been argued that gun rights should be taken away despite what the constitution of America says. The Constitution of America, for which America was founded on and still follows says, “ A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”  In other words, American citizens have every constitutional right to legally possess a gun. It is quite “necessary” to have guns and also a militia to insure the safety of one's state. Going on with this, guns are a right given to American citizens that shall not be “infringed” apon. The word infringed, according to the Google dictionary means, “ actively break the terms of (a law, agreement, etc.).”  So taking away guns or highly restricting them is indeed violating the American citizens 2nd amendment.  To add on to this, According to The Library of Congress, “The Court found that the D.C. ban on handgun possession violated the Second Amendment right because it prohibited an entire class of arms favored for the lawful purpose of self-defense in the home.” This implies that banning certain guns does indeed violate our amendment. As one can see, that D.C’s ban on handgun possession is constitutionally wrong. In other words, what is being said is that Americans should not be allowed to have conceal and carry! This implies that one should not be in control of their own safety after having gone through intensive conceal and carry training because they are looked at as a threat for protecting their own life. I find this to be blasphemy that one cannot carry a gun with them to protect their own life. People must remember that the possession of guns is a right given to American Citizens by our founding fathers, making this topic very important.

It has been asserted that, higher gun control insures a safer.

Higher gun laws ensure safer states and cities. According to Giffords Law Center, “Maryland has some of the strongest gun laws in the country”. However,  Baltimore is the leading city with the most crime. According to Neighborhood SCUOT, Baltimore is the 4th highest city with crime in America. It was also stated by Neighborhood SCOUT that,

With a crime rate of 63 per one thousand residents, Baltimore has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 16. Within Maryland, more than 98% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Baltimore. In fact, after researching dangerous places to live, NeighborhoodScout found Baltimore to be one of the top 100 most dangerous cities in the U.S.A.

In other words, Maryland which is one of the states in America with the highest gun laws seems to somehow also have one of the most “dangerous places to live,” in America. Ironic right, that taking away gun laws might seem to be causing less deaths by guns but its not slowing down the crime which was the whole point of having gun laws in place. Therefore,

In conclusion, gun rights should not be infringed upon because it is in our constitution. In addition guns are majorly important to American citizens because it is not only what our founding fathers claimed but also because it is for safety. The argument of wether guns should be banished/restriceted or not is a huge issue for the saftey of Americans.
