There are many things that go into effect in your school with e books instead of hard copies. Things like time limits on electronic devices, and distractions while having an ebook instead of a hard copy all go into the choice of whether schools should have ebooks instead of hard copies. There are many things that go into effect while having ebooks instead of hard copies, and this essay will dive into the debate of whether or not schools should have ebooks or hard copies.

There are many things that go into effect when it comes to the debate of ebooks or hard copies, but let's dive into the topic of parents and electronics. Many parents don’t like the idea of their child being on a  screen all day. Not only is it unhealthy for kids but it is also unsafe. In the blog post “Reading in Print is Better than on Screen Reading for children” by Sarah Rutzler it says  “if you find yourself feeling light headed, seeing blurry thus causing a headache those are symptoms for Computer Vision Syndrome.  Also, being on the computer to log can make kids act differently as well, and that is just one of the many cons from using an ebook.

Another thing is students don’t even prefer an ebook over a hard copy. The blog post “Reading in Print is better than on Screen Reading for Children.” Sarah Rutzler states “Naomi S. Baron did research on university students in the US, Germany,  and Japan that revealed if the cost were the same that 90% of students prefer the hard copy rather than the on screen PDF version.” This study shows that not only is hard copy safer, but is also more demanded among students. There was also another study that divided 72 tenth graders into two groups one group had ebooks while the other had hard copies. The study showed that the group of hard copy tenth graders liked hard copies better than ebooks. Helping the study that hard copies are better for schools.

Many brain injuries can also happen when using an e-book, for example, something called CVS can happen. As stated in paragraph 2 CVS also known as Computer Vision Syndrome is a condition in which you start to get light headed then you go on to have blurry vision thus causing a headache. That is why you would need to take breaks from e books. The article “iPads and Tablets May Cause Eye Problems or CVS” by New York Daily News states, “ Digital media screens are often held close to the eyes causing eye strain as your eyes shift” that is a reason why you need to take a break from screens every 20 to 30 minutes. There are many things that go into ebooks that can make it unsafe for students to read on, and use on a daily basis.

Many things can go into effect when talking about e-books. Whether it be about the safety of e books or whether it be about the productive use of e books. There are just too many things that are unsafe for kids when going into ebooks. That is why most people believe that e books should not be used in schools. Many things can go wrong with them, and I think it would be better if we just went to school without them.
