Argumentative Essay Sample: The Legalization of Abortion

Why should men have a say over women’s rights? Women have been told they can not do things since the beginning of time. This is one issue where men should have no say? Abortion for decades has been labeled as a women’s issue. Which leaves the question, why are legal theorists, legislators, prosecutors and, politicians who are mostly men? With that being said Abortion should be legal seeing that it is “My body My choice”(Mera Jisem Meri Marzi ). Given these points, crime and unfortunate circumstances can influence a women’s decision to terminate an unwanted pregnancy.

For instance, rape is not one of the leading causes of abortions but is still a concerning factor.

When it comes to abortion many people believe that it is a selfish act and the mother is not thinking about the fetus inside her. If abortion were to be illegal and the victim was forced to keep the fetus she would have a constant reminder of the very violent sexual assault that resulted in a pregnancy. 

Some women have to make the hard choice to terminate their pregnancy especially when the fetus will be born with life-threatening health issues. Such as Heart defects, Down syndrome, Impending miscarriage. No matter what the circumstances are no woman should be judged by the personal and devastating choices she has to make for her physical and mental health. For instance; financial, safety, economic and mental stability could be a driving factor on why women may feel the need to make the difficult decision to terminate their pregnancy.No matter what circumstances women should not be judged for getting an abortion nor should they be denied. 

For instance Financial, safety, economic, and mental issues could play a part in why women want to abort the fetus. Things cost money. Food, clothes, gas, doctor’s appointments, etc. The mother who got pregnant may be living in poverty. Things cost money. Most women needing to have an abortion were already having economic hardships and could not afford one child or even two if they had one already. Most people would state that women who have abortions are taking away the “baby’s right passage and to leave” and only are thinking about themselves. This is completely wrong they are thinking about the fetus but are also thinking about their state of mind, how it would affect them after the abortion. 

With that being said, People also do not understand that even though the fetus is biologically yours does not mean that the mother would feel a “bond”, they may even think it is a burden. The woman could feel as if the fetus was or is an “intruder” in her own body. The woman could feel as if the fetus was or is an “intruder” in her own body. The woman may not be emotionally connected or mentally ready to give 9 months of their life away. 

Those who disagree would suggest that it goes against their religion and that  it is the woman’s fault for getting pregnant against God’s Commandments. When people say it goes against their religion, that is very incorrect. Nowhere in the old or new testament does it list the word abortion nor does any international bible translate the word abortion. With that being said the United States is a Theocracy, which simply means our government is not ruled by religious rulers. Women should have to suffer the consequence for getting pregnant” That is what pro-life believe. They all look at abortions the same, not thinking that abortions can happen for many different reasons. That reason could be rape, one-night engagement, abuse, or life-threatening problems. 

Given these points, one could conclude from all the arguments that legalizing abortion would prevent death, psychological, physical issues among women. With all that being said Abortion should be legal seeing that it is “My body My choice”(Mera Jisem Meri Marzi ).
