Before the Flood Movie Review

The documentary Before the Flood, directed by Fisher Stevens, was powerful and sentimental. Before the flood features Leonardo DiCaprio as a narrator, and travels with the United Nations Messenger of Peace, and travels worldwide. They also show those who disagree with climate change and their view of why climate change isn’t real. 

DiCaprio always knew about the environmental changes but said that he was not perfect and still has things to learn at the beginning of the film. He always had an interest in climate change and always tried to get the information out. Many were not fans of Leonardo DiCaprio being the messenger of peace, but it was a good choice because DiCaprio is one of the biggest actors and has a voice that many don’t have.

The documentary makes you feel disgusted and upset by the clips and pictures they use. They have excellent background information with each thing they project. Having these can make a person change their view of things, especially those who don’t know what to believe. The director used clips or images that have a big story behind them. They want the watcher to see what is going on today and the past. Stevens wants us to be part of the change and make us ponder the situation.   

There are clips of mountains being blown up to find materials like oil and coal. When you see it, it makes you think that our economic system doesn’t care about anyone, not even their people. They say it is for us to keep living here, but it is slowly killing us in reality. There are better alternatives to live better and longer, but they want to destroy and kill us and make animals go extinct. We have intelligent scientists and engineers that can figure out anything about helping the environment, but we don’t listen.  

At the end of the movie, it talked about how cows make methane, which is considered horrible for the environment. It kept explaining one methane molecule is equivalent to twenty-three carbon dioxides. With that information, they clarified that what is happening to the ecosystem is because of livestock. Let’s put it this way, if you eat a hamburger, you are destroying the plant. If we stop eating beef, then that can be a significant difference to the environment. It is part of our lives to eat a hamburger or beef but knowing this information can change someone’s perspective on eating meat.  

This film includes famous people like Obama and Pope Francis, who were interviewed, and Leonardo DiCaprio was asking questions about climate change. It was all those who want to have an impact on reversing climate change. 

Before the Flood by Fisher Stevens mainly was made to get the word out and try to give solutions to saving our ecosystem. It tells us what is destroying our planet and needs to be taken into consideration. The movie’s whole point is to make the person who is watching it inspired to change and don’t be like those who don’t believe and ban the word climate change being said.
