Benefits of Brain Implants Essay Example

Ethics can be described as the moral principle that governs a person’s behavior over what is right and what is wrong. Brain implants are just one of the many ideas that involve ethics. Our brain has the most vital role out of all the other organisms in our body, so what can we do when our brain is not sending the proper signals to the rest of our body. Well, scientists have invented brain implants. Brain implants are used to stimulate certain aspects of the nervous system, in simple terms, the implant sends the correct message via electrical signals, and then the nervous system can interpret and respond by carrying out the command. In my opinion, brian implants are not ethically bad and can be used for a lot of good in the near future and that they should be used.

Brain implants can be used to help a lot of people whose brains do not send signals to the body are they simply do not send signals at all. Every day people are born with a missing limb or they are in a tragic accident and they become paralyzed, by cultivating brain implants, we are helping these people bring back a part of themselves that they thought they could never possess. Ellon “Musk says he hopes the implant could one day help quadriplegics control smartphones”( ). Even Ellon Musk has sought out a way for these people to be able to, in, some form is able to do everyday things, whether it be by electrical signals or being able to move their paralyzed limbs. So in theory people, who do not have use of their arms can send “electrical signals sent out by the brain”() and the smartphone could receive the message. By doing this people who are not able to move certain parts of their body may one day be able to do normal activities that other people can do.

Brain implants can be used in a variety of ways from helping people who are paralyzed or have lost a limb, but they can also help treat conditions that stem from the brain, whether it is because they are brain damage or your brain is not working properly. Brain implants can even help treat conditions such as Parkinson’s disease, dystonia, epilepsy, and many other disorders that stem from the brain. These implants work by “stimulating structures within the nervous system using implanted electrical circuitry”().To help treat these diseases the brain implant is inserted into the brain and it creates a deep brain stimulation that “send electrical impulses that bypass damaged tissue and regulate any abnormal impulses”(). So far these implants have been very successful and the trials have seen a significant improvement by the people with the diseases.  They are working so well that scientists have expanded their research to include many other conditions, through the use of deep brain stimulation.

While Brain implants can help in many ways, there is the question of if these implants can control you in some way, or if they infringe on our privacy. In reality, brain implants can read the signals in our brain, and then doctors use that information to help them better understand what they need to know on how to treat the thing that is alling them. So can people hack into these implants, I do not think so because so far none of the devices have been hacked or are hackable. While this is a factor that is to be considered it is almost impossible that this could happen as “because the hacker would have to be close to the patient and the device would have to be connected to the Internet which is not currently a requirement of neural implants”(). So it is safe to say that not one person can control your mind or make you do anything that you do not want to do. And they also can not infringe on your privacy as the only thing the doctors and other people would be able to get a hold of is the brain signals in your brain.

So in all brain implants can help people who have become paralyzed, have lost a limb, or simply were born without one. They can help those with diseases of the mind and soon they may be able to treat many other types of disease. And there is no way that another person can take control of your mind or infringe on your privacy because the implants are not connected to the internet and they is no way that other people can read your mind through the brain implants. Brain implants are the future of how our lives will be much richer and better from diseases to being able to use a paralyzed limb again and many other wonderful things. So in my opinion I think that we should continue to cultivate brain implants and see where they can take us.
