“Being brave isn't the absence of fear. Being brave is having that fear but finding a way through it.” - Bear Grylls. The definition of hero is, a person who is admired or idealized for courage, outstanding achievements, or noble qualities. “The hobbit” by J. R. R. Tolken is an exciting and epic fantasy adventure novel where the main character, Bilbo Baggins, is thrown into a thrilling and terrifying quest where he is faced with many perilous situations that he considers to be far outside of his comfort zone. I believe that Bilbo Baggins, although not being your stereotypical hero, was a hero nonetheless for these three reasons, he displayed courage through threatening situations, he made numerous achievements, and he emcompasses many noble and heroic qualities.

The first reason I believe Bilbo Baggins was a hero is he displayed courage through threatening situations. Some instances of his courage through peril include when he faced his enemies, such as Trolls, Gollum, the Goblin under the mountain, the Spider of Mirkwood, Smaug the dragon, and the King of Wood-Elves.

The second reason i believe bilbo baggins was a hero is he made numerous achievements including achieving personal growth such as gaining bravery, attaining leadership, and acquiring confidence

And finally the third reason I believe Bilbo Baggins was a hero is he emcompasses many noble and heroic qualities. Some heroic traits that Bilbo Baggins had pertaining to his heroic nature included determination, Bilbo never gave up. Even though in the beginning of his journey he grumbled and longed for home, he never turned back. Instead, he urged the dwarves to continue even when they faced challenging situations. He was protective, such as when he warned the dwarfs of the goblins, Bilbo was the dwarves’ constant source of rescue. and finally selflessness such as when he put himself aside in order to go against the spiders in order to protect the dwarfs

In conclusion I believe that Bilbo Baggins was a hero for these three reasons he displayed courage through threatening situations, he made numerous achievements, and he emcompasses many noble and heroic qualities.
