Bullying is a common issue amongst schools all over the world. Many school authorities are faced with the challenge of finding ways to prevent bullying in their schools. Bullying prevention plays an important role in schools, as it helps create a safe environment for both teachers and students.  Anti-bullying programs, a required course and anonymous tips best prevent bullying.

Anti-bullying programs help focus on the school climate and not just a few bullying incidents that may happen. Programs concentrate on the interaction between the victim and their bully, they also have many guides and procedures that can help the victim report their bullying. Principal Peggy Dolan at McNair Elementary school had insuited an anti-bullying program to help her school's bullying issue.“Before the program went into effect, Dolan dealt with 55 fights a year; now she averages six”(Healy). Dolan has also found that the programs have raised the scores of the children's math and reading standardized tests. Not only do anti-bullying programs educate students and teachers, but they educate parents as well. Many parents believe that the best solution is to tell their kids to stand up for themselves or even fight back. This can lead to other incidents happening, hence why anti-bullying programs help and or provide parents and students with other solutions that may help.

A few school districts are using other methods to prevent bullying in their schools. One of these methods is a required course on bullying. Schools begin the learning programs as early as when the students are in pre K. Some educators believe that starting the learning courses early on can help prevent middle school bullying. According to Viki Krebs, a guidance counselor at Concord Road Elementary school, “kids don’t start bullying when they are in the fifth grade”(Rosenberg). When children start learning about bullying at a young age, they learn how to handle negative crises and they learn to stay positive about themselves and others.

When it comes to bullying, victims might not be confident enough to speak up and report their bullies. Anonymous tips help victims or bystanders report bullying without being peer pressured. School districts across the United States have apps or programs where students can report tips and get it safely and quickly reported. “Police officers assigned to Janesville schools watch for bullying, sometimes learning about incidents through anonymous tips”("Anti-bullying ordinance won't be a panacea."). The tips can help the officers issue citations or even make arrests.
