There are thousands of car accidents every day, many of those cars do not have the current technology, which could have possibly prevented many of those accidents. There are 16,438 car crashes a day, and approximately 6 million car crashes a year in the United States alone. Although driving with cars without the current technology has come a long way, there are many more benefits now with the current and future technology, such as the advanced safety technology, efficient and convenient resources that are available for every new car. 

Firstly, an important safety feature that can prevent accidents is called driver assistance. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), “blind spot intervention helps prevent a collision with a vehicle in the driver’s blind spot.” While not every car has driver assistance technology, it shows the importance of driver assistance technology. Therefore it could potentially prevent an accident caused by someone not being able to see a car in their blind spot. Knowing this technology is available, everybody should be investing in a car with this technology because it does provide real safety for them. Also another key function of driver assistance technology is lane-keeping assistance. As stated by the NHTSA, “lane keeping assistance helps prevent the vehicle from unintentionally drifting out of its lane.” The function can keep a car in its lane, and make things less worrisome for the driver. People who struggle with keeping their car in their lane could benefit from this feature. Additionally, they should look for this technology in future car purchases. “Driver assistance technologies hold the potential to reduce traffic crashes and save thousands of lives each year. In 2019, 36,096 people died in motor vehicle crashes” according to the NHTSA. Not to mention, with the 6 million car crashes occurring every year, the cars without the new safety technology could hold the potential reduction of traffic crashes with driver assistance. Considering the evidence, it shows that driver assistance can reduce the number of car crashes that happen every day. Though driver assistance is not necessary for some people, on the other hand, there are 6 million car crashes and driver assistance should not be left out of consideration for most drivers. Driver assistance is crucial for the new and current safety technology, but there are many more factors to be considered.

Furthermore not knowing where your location can be a real struggle and a safety hazard but nowadays there is advanced GPS technology installed in our cars to tell us where we are and how to get from place to place. Advanced GPS technology provides, “higher levels of safety and mobility for all surface transportation system users… more accurate position determination to provide greater passenger information” (GPS.gov). That being said, everybody should invest in cars with the latest GPS technology because it automatically gives your car a higher safety system that promotes fewer car crashes since the driver will have more awareness on the road. “The promise of GPS technology for increasing safety and security, reducing congestion, and improving efficiency are limitless. Quite simply, GPS has become the enabling technology for transportation.” (GPS.gov). Information from a notable person gives it a different meaning. As Jeffrey N. Shane, the Former Under Secretary for Policy, U.S. The Department of Transportation, spoke highly of GPS paving the future transportation technology, many others should take notice if they have not gotten their hands on the new GPS technology. People investing in GPS technology reduces congestion and increases safety, which can make another driver’s experience safer and reduce the risk of a car crash. Driver assistance, blindspot technology, and advanced GPS technology are not the only functions that promote safety, car backup cameras that give a driver more insight into their surroundings is another important function to take into consideration.

Additionally backup cameras can give a driver a much easier and safer time on gathering information on their surroundings when backing up. “An estimated 200 people are killed each year and 14,000 are injured due to backover accidents … drivers will always be able to view what is directly behind their vehicle, therefore preventing many of these unnecessary and heartbreaking injuries and deaths”(Hertz). Many drivers and pedestrians have been involved in an accident because of a driver's lack of awareness. Having a backup camera displaying the sight of what's behind the car, on a screen that is right in front of the driver, can give a lot more awareness and prevent fewer backover accidents. More people should take notice of a backup camera in cars, which should not be an issue because “75 percent of 2018 model vehicles were already projected to include backup cameras.” Also, “according to a research study by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, backup cameras in vehicles reduce the blind zone by about an average of 90 percent” (Hertz). If one invests in a car with a backup camera, it reduces a driver’s blind zone by an average of 90%, meaning a driver has less to worry about a spot they cannot see and can prevent a car crash or backover accident. There are many important safety functions the new current car technology can provide and there is research to back up its safety promotion.

In conclusion, with the new advanced car technology, there are many more benefits that come with it as it can improve a driver's safety and reduce the number of crashes that happen every day. Advanced GPS, backup cameras are both important features to have, however, driver assistance can provide many benefits to new and current drivers for their safety on the road. To reduce the 16,438 car crashes a day, and approximately 6 million car crashes a year, every driver should be investing in new car technology to keep others and themselves safe while driving.
