Causes of the Russian Revolution Essay Example

The Russian Revolution was caused by several reasons. I feel the most significant reason why there was a revolution was because of the peasant’s revolt which led to a chain of events that occured resulting in the Russian Revolution. 

The most important reason is the economic discontent of the peasants with their position in the hierarchy of the country. Over three quarters or the population were unhappy with the injustice of the status of the peasants in the empire. They were the base of the hierarchy which meant they worked at minimum wage only to give taxes to the upperclassmen. Evidence of injustice for the peasants is famine. This was a common occurrence at the turn of the century. There was a widespread famine in 1901 and they had little to no money to feed themselves. Another example of unfairness of peasants was that the working and living conditions were horrendous. There was little to protect the pay or safety of workers, moreover; Alexander III and Nicholas II did little to improve the situation as the working hours remained at 11.5. As a result, protests and strikes began to increase in the early 1900s and by 1905 they were severe and widespread. An excellent range of evidence is given here. 

The second most important reason was Tsar and how he did not care enough for his country which lead to economic downturn for Russia.You sort of did it here  His poor decisions resulted in the end of his family's dynasty and the end of autocracy in Russia. Evidence of this is in 1903, he had conflict with Japan. Instead of trying to resolve this conflict, he provoked it and sent Russian troops into Northen Korea (which at the time was ruled by Japan). By this time Russian and Japan were at war. This shows Tsars poor decision making which links to the peasants revolt as he did nothing to improve the dreadful conditions of the working classmen, thus leading them to cause economic downturn which meant lack of jobs and regular income.Again the evidence is quite strong and you are able to make the connection but be more explicit in the link

The third reason is WW1. During WW1 there began to be many food shortages and inadequate supplies and weaponry. This led to heavy losses that the Russians suffered in the first world war; thus, further weakening Russia's views of Nicholas II. World War 1 had many effects on Russia, one of the main reasons why Nicholas got exiled from his throne was because of his role in WW1. He went to the front to lead his army which in turn slaughtered millions of his troops. Another main reason was the economic chaos caused which resulted in lack of food and basic essential supplies. This links to Tsar as his poor decisions in WW1 culminated in economic downturn for Russia. Again you have an excellent range of evidence here and the argument is clearly sustained.
