Censorship Should Not Be Justified Argumentative Essay Example

Censorship is one of the cruel injustices this world is serving to us on a wooden platter that’s disguised as silver. Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication, and other information. It involves restrictions on expression, or the public availability of books, newspapers and journals, films, plays, news, artwork, photography, broadcasts, and non-acceptance of new scientific thoughts. Censorship can threaten democracy, encourage subversive activities, may equally foster idealism through indoctrination and strengthen governmental control. The truth should no longer be hidden. It should no longer be hidden in the shadows right between our eyes. We deserve to know the truth even if takes us years to escape the darkness that we have been stuck in all this time. That’s why it is imperative that censorship should not be justified.

Firstly, censorship allows a false narrative to become the truth. I dare you to question the average person living in North Korea what they think of the world. It is almost definite that they’ll tell you that the United States is one of the worst countries in the world compared to their own civilisation. Even if you could call it that. They would most likely say that their standard of living is excellent, that their lives are beautiful all of the time. Obviously ignoring that the average person in that country earns $3 per month, that 18 million people need food assistance to avoid malnutrition, and that there is no access to basic medical care. There are also extreme human rights issues, such as complete censorship of freedom of expression and religious practices. It is a place of torture, arbitrary arrest, and public executions. The Trump Administration wants to label anything in opposition to its viewpoint as being fake because that indicates their content is the truth. It is another form of a false narrative intended to get a specific reaction out of supporters as a way to keep power. This is justifying what censorship can do. It hides us from the cruel truth that people are always getting mistreated somewhere. Censorship is just another term for injustice and brutality.

Secondly, censorship prevents a person from expressing themselves freely. In a no-rules environment that is completely free of censorship, anyone could post anything that they want without fear of reprisal, people could express themselves freely without being held back. The United States walks a fine line along this path by preventing the use of “obscene” items. Other countries take this issue a little further, outlawing social media posts that are determined to be at odds with the official position of the nation’s government. This seems rather absurd because it clearly represses a person’s opinion if it doesn’t comply with the government laws. Some governments use their power to arrest those who are deemed to be in opposition. This can be proved when Nicholas Demas from Mic completed a profile of eight social medial users who were arrested for what they said online in 2013. Matt Woods posted inappropriate comments about a 5-year-old at a time when he was drunk, earning him three months in jail. If we get sent to jail for merely expressing our innocent opinions. I wonder what will happen in years’ time. Will we get executed for talking about our opinions? What will happen if we don’t comply? Do they want us to be some mindless robots with no opinions or personalities? Who wants that to happen? I’m sure we don’t want that to happen in the future. Therefore, there should not be any prevention of one expressing their opinion and getting punished for it.

Thirdly, Censorship represses one group of people in favour of what the majority wants. A museum director was once arrested because sexually explicit photographs from Robert Mapplethorpe were included in an art exhibit that they had previously managed. The artist’s work is often displayed in black and white. It merely features nudity and a certain amount of suggestiveness. But it is far from violent or suggestive that it would encourage lawlessness. Under the laws of the United States, it would be fair to say that the country is the most speech-protective nation in the world. When it comes to sexual speech, things are different because there are still remnants of the country’s Puritan heritage remaining in the law. Even the Supreme Court has affirmed that censorship on moral grounds is permissible. Which can be found rather ludicrous at times if it harms no one. There are millions of murderers and rapists in this world and they’re out there arresting innocent people for displaying nudity as a work of art. Soon they’re going to be arresting us for showering naked. This is utterly and irrevocably absurd. Do we want to behave as mindless robots and slaves? Why should we repress a certain group for what the majority? It’s called democracy, but all I see is the government aiming for us to comply and not ask questions. Justice is what we say we want, yet all I see is injustice towards the minorities. Would you like it if your opinion was deemed irrelevant because it doesn’t comply with the majority?

Even though, some people believe that censorship can reduce the amount of conflict that is in society. They say that if you look on the Internet long enough, there will be something that can offend anyone. The goal of censorship isn’t to eliminate access to anything that anyone might find to be problematic. People wouldn’t get to go online if that were the case. Censorship is the process is to limit access to information that could have an adverse impact on the overall culture of our homes & communities. This is thoroughly and conclusively preposterous. Not because it’s entirely wrong, but it’s rather vapid if you think about it for long enough. They act as if censorship is our saviour, yet uncensored statements aren’t the main cause of conflict in our current society. Why censor information if it isn’t the main cause of conflict in our community? The purpose to do this is to scare the public into compliance. Like we’re some slaves ready to be bossed around. Think again when you say that uncensored statements are the root of conflicts in our society.

“To be or not be?” That’s the question that William Shakespeare asked all those years. Yet it still applies to our current query. Should censorship be justified? It’s vitally crucial and imperative that censorship should NOT be justified in this life or the next. Doesn’t it feel nice when you get repressed so the majority can get their way? Or believing a false story and then feeling like an absolute dunce when you find out the truth? How about not being able to express your own opinion? Obviously not. Then why justify censorship? What do you think? Would you rather live a sweet lie or the cold hard truth that could easily be overcome if everyone accepted it and wanted change? It’s either our freedom or their control. Now that you know the truth. Would you want the sadness to crush you with an overwhelming force of a tidal wave and you drown in its embrace if you sit and do nothing? Or. Let them realise that as they stand by us, each lie that tumbles out of their mouths, each falsehood that slips past their lips, rips another shred of guilt through their sinful bodies? And we finally get justice by letting the guilt consume them like a wildfire, burning a hole through the veil that once surrounded their morality.
