Should children always be obedient and respectful to their parents? This question has been asked a lot of times by a lot of people. Though it might be true that parents can be wrong sometimes, they still did many things for you and therefore you should always be respectful towards them because of this. Three reasons why children should always be obedient and respectful to their parents are because they gave them life, they can try to make them happy, and life would be tough without parents.

The first reason why children should always be obedient and respectful to their parents is because they gave them life. Regardless of how they treat you, you should respect and be obedient to them because you wouldn't be here if it weren’t for your parents. For example, 15 years ago I was born and if it weren’t for my parents I would not be here. Because of this example, I respect my parents else I wouldn’t be here. Another example would be my brother. He was born 10 years ago and if it weren’t for my parents, I wouldn’t have a brother and he wouldn’t have existed himself. Because of these two examples, I have respect for my parents and you should too because you wouldn’t exist without them and you wouldn’t experience life. Therefore children should always be obedient and respectful to your parents because they gave you life.

The second reason why children should always be obedient and respectful to their parents is because they can make you happy. Whether it’s when they're in a bad mood or need support in general, parents try to comfort them by trying to make them happy. In the book , My name is Asher Lev, Asher says that “We played. We took long walks. She was a gentle big sister” (Potok 11) and this was when Asher’s mother was trying to make Asher happy and trying to comfort him. This basically shows that, since Asher’s mother is trying to make him happy, it provides a reason why children should have respect for their parents because their parents try to make them happy. Asher also mentions that his father tried to comfort him by telling him to “go back to sleep” (Potok 32) after Asher heard something terrifying. Since Asher’s father was trying to set him in a good mood and trying to comfort him, it displays as an example of parents trying to make their children happy. Therefore, because parents are trying to make their children happy, children should be obedient and respectful to their parents.

The final reason why children should always be obedient and respectful to their parents is because life would be tough without them. Studies show that “increased levels of depressive symptoms and chronic health conditions”(APA Public Affairs Office) are shown in people that live with no parents. Due to the fact that these people lived without parents, life has been tough for them. Not only that, because of the lack of parental support, they have conditions such as depression and other health conditions. This shows that because life would be tough without parents, children should have respect  because if they didn’t have parents, life would get worse for them. However some people argue that life with parents would be tough as well due to things such as child abuse and therefore shouldn’t have respect for parents. Though this may be true that some parents can be child abusive and children wouldn’t have respect for them, however there are numerous ways life can be tough without parents. Financial needs can be a problem for children if they don’t have parents. “Someone else will have to cook, clean, or go out to work”(Arkom) if children don’t have parents which also shows the importance of parents and why children should respect their parents. Therefore, the fact that life can be tough without parents, serves as a reason why children should always be obedient and respectful to their parents.

There are many more reasons why children should always be respectful and obedient to their parents. However there are three reasons that would be the most logical as to why and those three reasons are they gave them life, they can try to make them happy, and life would be tough without parents. Overall children should be respectful and obedient to their parents for many reasons regardless if they are scolded or complimented.
