Children shouldn't be able to play high contact sports because, It’s Dangerous, It has led to suicide, Its Expensive.
According to protectthebrain.org “Between 1.6 and 3.8 million people get concussions as a result of sports. and 10% of all sports athletes sustain concussions.” This means 3.8 million people get concussions thats 10% of the sports contact sports players, of which most are from fotball. This is important because 3.8 million is a huge number and that we need protect other children by banning high contact sports. A concussion is very dangerous as it causes brain damage. Because of its high concussion rate, anyone with a child wouldn't play.
According to springboard ”Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy, a condition brought on by repeated blows to the head, has been linked to the suicide deaths of three former NFL players in the past 18 months: ex-Bears safety Dave Duerson in February 2011, ex-Falcons safety Ray Easterling in April, and ex-Chargers linebacker Junior Seau on May 2.” Those 3 players commited suicide as a result of Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy although the sample size is small it is still a risk and since a little trash talking can get out of hand such as the Miami and FIU game in 2006. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a rare disorder it is not well understood, so we try and understand it to help prevent it and stop players from commiting suicide. Chronic Traumatic Encephalopathy is a very serious condition we must put money into making football alternatives like flag football. This also proves Football is dangerous.
According to espn.com “the team spends $484.57 on gear per person” then multiply that by 53 players. This means your spending $25682.21 to outfit a team. This matters because 90% of kids go to public schools and they are funded by taxes that can be used to improve infrastructure, or improve the schools as a whole. Wouldn't you rather have better education for a better future or get hurt playing football? This proves that football is expensive.
On the other hand, some people say it is getting safer. This is one point of view, however, in the nfl alone 224 people got concussions now imagine that with the million of kids playing contact sports.
Contact sports are dangerous because it causes concussions, causes suicide and its wasting money. We must ban Football!
