Fossil fuels and global warming are deeply intertwined. This may not seem like the case but it is. For more than a century humans have been relying on fossil fuels to give us the resources that we need, over these years the use of fossil fuels has affected the environment. Recently we as a society have taken notice of the situation that we are in and have tried to fix the problem. There are now many organisations that are trying to come up with a solution, however global warming is still a big problem. This report is going to include what fossil fuels are, what global warming is and how they both are connected.

First, what are fossil fuels, the word ‘fossil fuels’ is a name that is given to types of non-renewable energy sources? Fossil fuels are made from the decomposition of dead plants and animals, they can be found in the crust of the Earth and have certain elements which can be burned for energy. The main fossil fuels that we use today are coal, oil and natural gas. Coal is a substance that is usually found in things like sedimentary rocks, a sedimentary rock deposit is where rocks and dead flora and fauna have piled up in layers. It then goes through cementation, a process that hardens and welds sediments together by the precipitation of the mineral matter in the pores of the sediments. Oil, when it is found, is a solid substance that is found between layers of sedimentary rock. It is then heated up to make the thick substance that we call oil. Natural gas is found in sedimentary rock layers, it can also be found in the pockets of oil in the sedimentary rocks, though it can still be found in rocks without oil.

Glob, everybody has heard of it but what exactly is it? Global warming is the rising of temperature on Earth. This is caused by greenhouse gas emissions. Many people confuse global warming and climate change. Climate change is the pattern of changes in the Earth's temperature while global warming is the Earth heating up. Fossil fuels are one of the main reasons that global warming is occurring, when we burn fossil fuels they release greenhouse gases. Although greenhouse gases may be bad for the environment, they are very useful for everyday activities as they are fast and easy to use. Fossil fuels are everywhere, we use them for gasoline, heat and electricity. Everybody uses fossil fuels, which is why it is so hard to get rid of. Fossil fuels currently supply 80% of the world's energy, fossil fuels release so many greenhouse gases that in 2018 82% of greenhouse gas emissions came from fossil fuels. Global warming has gotten so bad that by 030 it is expected that the Earth’s temperature will increase by at least 2.7℃. Although fossil fuels may be a big contributor there are other factors to global warming, modern-day devices emit CO2 and the use of mobile phones contributes 3.7% of the world's total greenhouse gas emissions. There is a solution, non-renewable resources are resources that can’t regenerate naturally, like fossil fuels. Renewable resources are the opposite, renewable resources(solar, hydro, wind etc.) can help reduce the number of greenhouse gases that are in the atmosphere as they don’t release greenhouse gases. Many people are already switching over to greenhouse gases so they can reduce their carbon footprint.

Fossil fuels, although they are the easy option it doesn’t mean that they are the best option. Global warming is getting worse the more we use fossil fuels, today renewable resources are being advertised more and more. This is a good thing because nowadays people are taking action on global warming. I can conclude from the research that I have considered that fossil fuels do contribute to global warming.
