Combat High by Sebastion Junger Article Analysis

The article Combat High, written by Sebastion Junger. Sebastian is an American journalist as well as a filmmaker. He published Combat High on May tenth, the year of two thousand and ten. Sebastian was born in Belmont, Massachusetts. Sebastian was interested in learning about other information that was happening in the world around him. I would say that he as well wanted to educate us and that’s why he wrote Combat High. Combat High was a tragedy, it was a big moment for everyone who experienced it. This day changed people’s lives, some in good and some in bad. There were many different perspectives on this event.

Later on, the article here shows the mentality of the U.S. Soldier and their way of thinking. In the article, it states, “people think were cheering because we just shot someone but we were cheering because we just stopped someone from killing us” This here proves that soldiers were in this war to win it, even if that meant to kill somone. The soldiers were doing their job. During that job, you sort of see them shut their emotions because they don’t want these emotions to be a distraction and a cause of their loss in a war. Another point that stood out in the article of Combat High was to always be prepared at all times because you never know what is going to happen in the next minute or hour. No one expected this tragedy to happen, yet it did happen because that is something out of our control. The men were not ready for war, they were shirtless, wearing shorts, and flip-flops. Sebastian Junger says, “Some of the men worry they’ll never be satisfied with normal again.” Sebastian here tells us that these men got overwhelmed by what has happened. This day left a mark in these men’s brains and hearts, it feels like a memory that will haunt them all their lives. 

Afterward, the final and a really important point that stood up quickly was how fast this event has happened. As said before, Combat was a tragedy that was unexpected and was one of the biggest things to the people who were there and experienced it. Men who were always loyal to society died and we owe them a lot like at least acknowledging them. These soldiers go on to fight and come back to be the normal human beings on earth but they don’t feel like it. In the article Combat High, “Twenty minutes of Combat is more life than you could scrape together in a lifetime of doing something else.” This quote here proves that a lot has happened during Combat that feels like it took forever when it was just a very short time. 

In conclusion, the moral of Combat High is to not give up when you and always believe in yourself. Never underestimate what you can do, never underestimate how much change you can put in the world. It is okay to fall as long as you’re ready to play the game one more time. The future audience will acknowledge how the soldiers were always trying their best to be well prepared for their next fight, even when they were unconscious of its timing. Soldiers put their lives on the lone on daily basis to save us and that shows how big of a hero a soldier can be. They were unsure if they would make it out alive but they always gave their best in making the future a better place.
