Comparative Essay Sample: My Thanksgiving Traditions and Other People’s Traditions

There are many different ways to celebrate Thanksgiving. Many people have different cultures, so they will celebrate Thanksgiving differently. Your Thanksgiving and my Thanksgiving are completely different. Let’s see what other people's Thanksgiving is like compared to mine.

Let’s talk about my Thanksgiving traditions compared to other people’s. I have always helped my Grandma cook. When my Grandma passed I still always baked and cooked with my mom. I will always live this tradition out with my kids and so on. One of my peers is big on riding dirt bikes and four-wheelers, so he always has a race with his family on Thanksgiving. A tradition my peers and I share is watching the Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade. 

Let's talk about the best part of this holiday, food.  On Thanksgiving, most of us eat turkey, not all of us though. Therefore, I eat ham instead of turkey. People say that eating Pumpkin Pie is a tradition, not for me. Instead of Pumpkin Pie, I will eat a Hershey’s chocolate chip pie. This may come very surprising to many of you guys, one of my peers will eat Mexican food on Thanksgiving. I know a very smart peer that will make a turkey sandwich with the leftover turkey. Nobody will ever eat the exact same food on Thanksgiving; Therefore we don’t have similarities in food.

Everybody has activities they do on Thanksgiving. I don’t have a lot of activities on Thanksgiving. Every year the Chicago Bears will play the Detroit Lions. I will watch that game with my family. I will go Black Friday shopping with mom the next day. There are a few kids that will have an outdoor football game. One kid plays poker with his family. There is one thing tons of us share which is watching The Chicago Bears play the Detroit Lions.

On Thanksgiving, many people travel or go to a family member's house. Not me though, my family always hosts Thanksgiving. We always have a decent number of people come to our house on Thanksgiving. Some of my peers will go to a family member's house. A peer of mine will go to Florida every other year for Thanksgiving. Nevertheless, that person is incredibly lucky! Most of my peers though will host Thanksgiving just like I do.

Thanksgiving is celebrated differently all over the world. Many people have different cultures, so they will celebrate Thanksgiving differently. I have learned how people celebrate this wonderful holiday. Whether you celebrate it with activities, traveling, different food, and traditions you have. Everybody celebrates Thanksgiving differently. How do you celebrate Thanksgiving?
