Located 5 miles south of downtown, it is located in the Conestee, Mauldin area of South Carolina. Back in the 1892 a dam was built to help power the mill.  Unfortunately, due to the waste entering the Reedy River from the textile and other industries, the Conestee area was polluted. It thrived as a rehabilitation center, so in 2016 it was given the title of a privately owned wildlife sanctuary.

It’s mission is to “ Provide responsible stewardship of our unique and ecological resources. We provide inclusive opportunities for meaningful connection, discovery, and learning in nature.”  It is open to the public for free and has 13 miles of trails and 11 observation decks. It is a place where the people can get outside and experience nature. They maintain it so the human impact on the wildlife’s natural habitat is minimal.

Besides being known for their wildlife rehabilitation program, they are also known for their historical significance. They were titled as a “National Register of Historic Places.” They are known for the vast wetlands, and evergreen and hardwood forests. They are marked by one mile of boardwalks in addition to trails through the woods to help people get closer to nature. The dam that built formed Lake Conestee is still there.
