Preparing for the sacrament of confirmation has brought me closer to the church in the areas of learning about the church community and how it works as well as how it’s like to be a full member of the church. Preparation has also brought me closer to God by showing me things. Things like caring about our people and our society. I chose the name Cecilia. Saint Cecilia lived in Rome. She pledged to never marry nor have children, as she had already given her life to the works and miracles of God. Her parents set up an arranged marriage with a pagan nobleman by the mane of Valerian.

During the wedding it was said she ‘sat apart from everyone and sang in her heart to God’ and that’s why she is now the patron saint of music and musicians. Cecilia was born between 200 AD and 230 AD, while she died between 222 AD and 230 AD. Her feast day is November 22nd, and her major shrine is in Trastevere, Rome. I found it interesting that Cecilia connected with God on a musical level. I think that’s very cool. I can be more like her by dedicating more everyday things to God. During this process of getting ready for confirmation we had to do acts of mercy, which was very cool. It helped me see how many opportunities we have to help our community. As well as that we got to pack meals for people who our less fortunate. That led us too seeing that we’re privileged even if we don’t feel it. Packing the easter eggs also ties into helping the church community. It was fun to come together and help the community with our love and support for each other.

After confirmation I think that coming to mass will mean even more, because I’m a full member of the church now. To me (and others I’m sure) its important to do confirmation as you become a full member of the church in result. As a full member of the church your relationship with God and his disciples strengthens as does your understanding of his miracles and works. Having a deeper understanding of God helps spread the word of God and evangelize. When you are confirmed your sealed with the holy spirit and God’s grace. This grace helps the person to grow in faith, hope, and love.

Confirmation is the final sacrament that lays down the foundation of a good Christian life. Confirmation is modeled after the first Pentecost, when the apostles sealed the holy spirit into hundreds of people. Out of the 3 initiation sacraments, confirmation is the final and third one. It finalizes the foundation of the Christian life and forces the candidate to make decisions unlike ones they’ve seen before. It chooses the candidate to be disciples and saints of the church.
