Contextual Analysis Essay Example

 I chose my context because down the road, I will need to write a paper explaining my career/college choice. My context is a paper needing to be written of what made me choose the college/career choice I am and why they should accept my application. Writing this explanation of why I want to go to UT and why I want to go there will help me in the future when I do decide to apply. I want to go into marine biology because of my experience with a certain mammal during my vacation a few years back. I think another reason of wanting to pursue marine biology has been from going to Hutchinson Island every single year, for as long as I can remember.

Story:

Ever since I was a little girl, I knew I loved the ocean, but Florida had always felt like a vacation spot. Never did I think I would be applying to a college 1000-some miles away to pursue my dream career. The University of Tampa has been my dream school since the moment I knew I wanted to pursue marine biology. UT has an excellent marine biology program and a beautiful campus, and I cant believe I have an opportunity to apply here. This single moment of awestruck at the age of 12 has shaped my life and future career today.

I have grown up spending my summers at the beach, but one particular vacation a few years back, was when I knew I wanted to pursue a job related to marine life. It was 2017 in late June, and we were beginning our 14-day vacation at my grandmas place in Hutchinson Island. We were spending the humid day swimming in the ocean when some neighbors of ours began shouting. We hurried to the sandy shore, when suddenly we saw what the commotion was. A big 10-foot dolphin had washed upon the shore, struggling to breath, with a massive bite mark on its fin. People began to gather around, wondering how alive this poor creature was. It appeared to have washed upon the beach for a few hours and was barely moving by the time we discovered it. I was confused and worried, while also terrified of what had defeated this dolphin. We had no clue what to do and it was clearly not going to be able to survive back in the ocean. We called the oceanographic society that was located on the island and asked what to do. They came and broke the news. The dolphin was in too bad of condition and was nearly dead. There was nothing they could do.

This instance uncovered my passion for ocean animals. I wanted to do everything in my power to help this beautiful animal. It inspired me to learn more about dolphins and what their predators are. It also led me to volunteer at the local zoo and even have a chance to swim and interact with the Indianapolis zoo dolphins. This specific moment of seeing the struggling dolphin dying on the beach, is what led to my curiosity of marine biology and of how I can pursue this dream of mine. Being accepted into The University of Tampa would bring myself as well as my grandma (who is the owner of the beach house in Florida) tremendous joy. If accepted, it will allow me to continue my passion for studying and learning about animals, as well as allowing me to teach others about how we can help clean and protect our oceans today.
