Coronavirus as a Headliner Topic (Argumentative Essay Example)

Covid or otherwise known as Coronavirus is a disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. The disease first started in March 2019 when it was detected in wastewater. As we just passed March 2022, it has been a little more than 3 years since this disease began. Should the coronavirus still be a headliner topic then, or should we just move on. Different people have different opinions on this and that is ok. Some people like to stay safe and some people don’t care. It may be possible that Covid is now a part of life. If we forget about Covid, some small businesses might also even get a chance to reopen. The World Health Organization (WHO) has helped and lots of countries have developed vaccines and pills so they are helping to stop the spread. Let’s see more reasons.

As I said before, Covid has become a part of everyday life. Businesses, people, jobs and the economy have all been affected in different ways. Some businesses got bankrupt and had to shut down due to this virus. If we forget about Covid and move forward, businesses might get a chance to open. Most people are now used to wearing a mask which is keeping us safe. Scientists, people and organizations have tried almost everything like masking, vaccines and more. Like we get the flu year round, Covid has become something like that. If we remove Covid from our life, we can focus on other important things like our future. Even though people are saying all of these things are stopping the spread of Covid, they are wrong. They are helping stop the spread but not stopping it directly. My first reason is that Covid has become a part of everyday life.

My next reason to move on is that if we just leave Covid our headliner topic, we will not get to know other news around the world such as the Ukraine-Russia war. For the past couple of weeks, Covid case numbers have been pretty stable around 2000. This information is not helping anyone because almost everyone is doing masking and hand hygiene anyway. If we remove Covid from our headliner topic, then it will make space for more important news whether it is news to inform us about something or just something fun. Personally, I watch CP24 and they show news at the top which is the main news and there are small headlines at the bottom. I think Covid should show up there just to give everyone a main idea on the virus. I previously gave this example which was the Russia-Ukraine war. That is not as important to Canada but since it is good to know what is happening around the world, we should have that in headliner news because it started recently. If you compare that to Covid, it started 3 years ago so this is my second reason.

My last reason that we should leave Covid in the past is because there is stuff to protect us against the virus. I am going to start with masking and sanitation. For a long time, (about 2 years) we have been wearing masks to help stop the spread of the Coronavirus but as we know, Covid spreads when it wants to. That is why it is good that we stay safe while leaving Covid in the past. Another thing that is currently protecting people who chose to be protected are vaccines. As of today, there are about 7 vaccines that are approved in Canada and people are being vaccinated with them. We should leave Covid behind because we have vaccines to help protect us. We not only have vaccines, but have pills. The first Covid pill approved in Canada was in January 2022 so if we are sick, we can take this pill. When we are super sick, we take a relief pill anyway so there is no difference in the Covid pill except that it is to cure something different. Coming back to vaccines when we talk about boosters, they can also protect us against the virus. We get flu shots every year so there is no harm to get a booster twice a year. If we take these simple precautions, we can help to leave Covid in the past. This is my third reason for why we should move forward and look beyond Covid into our futures.

After this essay, I would just like to say that I do encourage everyone to be protective of themselves so that they do not get Covid. Even though you leave something behind, don’t forget to take care of yourself, especially when talking in Covid terms. I can use myself as an example, as I want to leave the Coronavirus behind but at the same time, I wear a mask to school so this is what I mean. My first reason was that Covid has become a part of everyday life which is not a good thing but we have to learn to live with it and I mean masking and hand hygiene while at the same time, forget about Covid. My next reason was that leaving Covid as a headliner topic for a long time will not make space for anymore news. It has been Covid for 3 years and we cannot just keep on reporting case numbers every single day for the rest of our lives. My final reason is that we have resources to protect ourselves such as vaccines, pills, masks and the materials to create hand sanitizer. Saying this, I think that we should move forward and look beyond Covid about our futures.
