Cyberbullying on Social Media Essay Example

“The greatest trick Social media ever pulled was convincing that it was safe and harmless”.Long ago before an era of phones and social media, it was said that many teenagers and kids lost their lives due to hygiene,food and health,but now this has changed due to social media teenagers have come across suicidal thoughts and sadly many have done it all because of a few words.Words can go far,further than you could imagine,so far it would cost a life.Words can be positive,words can be negative,words are everywhere,the favourite songs we listen to or the movies we watch.Words can make our lives filled with happiness and fun or if used in a wrong way can be used as a weapon.

Cyberbullying on social media has cost lives especially, someone dear to me. As a person who came across this monstrosity and as a person who knew a friend who was killed by it i can assure its no joke.It was an ordinary day when i was walking back home on my phone tapping and swiping on my phone to see all the likes and comments i've gotten on an recent post,until my eye caught on to someone.It was one my classmates sitting on the bench with her head down onto her knees.Some girls bullied her on instagram and now the toll has taken affect.I walked past thinking in my head that it was none of my business to talk to her and help her.The next day tragedy struck when i found out she commited suicide.

A survey carried out by the mental health department of oxford university,recorded that 1 in 5 who use social media have encountered cyberbullying. 1 in 100 have been mentally damaged to the point where daily life is corrupted to which their education has been ruined. Sadly 1 in 10,000 have even gone to  the point where suicuide was the last resort.Now what does this tell you? That's right,social media can destroy our lives if we are not aware of the dangers.

Now you may be wondering why this is relevant to you and me. It is really important what we say on Social media because without knowing we could actually take a life. If you don't insult anyone and keep it to yourself you won't go to prison it's easy. We must help anyone if they are suffering from this and guide them so the younger generation like me and other people won't have to suffer in this way.

No i'm not asking you to stop social media and throw your phones away.Im asking you to educate yourself and others from the dangers of social media. We can do this by monitoring their accounts or letting them enjoy the outdoors or simply sit down and spend time with them and explain to them about it , just like how you kindly shared your time to hear me out.
