Daisy Buchanan Character Analysis in The Great Gatsby Essay Example

Daisy Buchanan is a morally ambiguous character in the book The Great Gatsby. She is purely evil. She only married Tom because he had money and she needed someone to marry. Once she saw Gatsby again she wants him after seeing all of his money and wealth, and she takes advantage of people for popularity and money.

Daisy Buchanan only married Tom because she knew he could provide her with the things she wanted in life, material things. She wanted a secure social position and to be seen as wealthy. She thought Tom could make her happy because money is her happiness, but she was wrong. When she married Tom she was very upset and had to calm herself down after marrying him.

Once Gatsby arranges a tea with Daisy, they go back to Gatsby house. Daisy is so surprised when she sees how big Jays house is and all of the nice things he owns. She regrets not waiting for Gatsby and wishes she didn’t marry Tom. She cry’s over Gatsby material things, like how nice his shirts are. She’s purely evil because she’s regretting marrying Tom just because Gatsby has newer and better things than him. She took advantage of Gatsbys material things and leads Gatsby on. Gatsby is left sad because she can’t automatically leave her husband for him.

Unfortunately he doesn’t know she would only leave because he has better thing than her husband does.

All daisy wants in life is to be on top of the social class. She would rather be sad and rich, than happy and not have that much money. The only reason she married Tom was to be high class, and to be seen as wealthy and beautiful. Daisy takes advantage of anyone who wants her. Daisy is the definition of purely evil. She won’t leave Tom for Gatsby because of Toms social class. Because she wants to be seen as old money instead of new money. She betrayed Gatsby. Daisy is manipulative and cruel, but always tries to play the victim.
