Did you know that 40 million out of 230 million Americans suffer from depression ages 18 and older? That's about everyone 1/6 of America is dealing with depression. This static for the (WHO) World Health Organization is crazy. 40 million Americans are dealing with depression, a deep state of sadness. That can change the eyes of a person and their view on life. Depression needs to be recognized in a society; it causes low energy relationships and suicidal thoughts that put families and them in personal and mental trauma.

Depression, the deep state of mental sadness is found as a leading cause of suicidal deaths. Being in half of the present suicidal deaths depression shows how mentally traumatizing it is. Being almost the majority of suicides depression is found as one of the leading factors for these terrible tragedies. Nancy Schimelpfening, a writer and has a degree in health writes about how depression impacts people personally. ”One of the main ways that depression might lead to death is if the negative symptoms result in a person deciding to take their own life.  amDepression can make people feel helpless and without hope, causing them to reach the unfortunate conclusion that suicide is the only way to end their misery.”(Schimelpfening p.1)) Depression making people feel hopeless has caused so many deaths. Being present in half the cases shows that we need to take drastic measures to make sure we recognize this as a serious thing. That everyone knows how they can help themselves and that they're not alone. Furthermore, the (WHO) World Health Organisation tells the facts that this common mental crisis can cause horrific things. Depression is a common illness worldwide, with more than 264 million people affected(1). Depression is different from usual mood fluctuations and short-lived emotional responses to challenges in everyday life. Especially when long-lasting and with moderate or severe intensity, depression may become a serious health condition. It can cause the affected person to suffer greatly and function poorly at work, at school, and in the family. At its worst, depression can lead to suicide. Close to 800 000 people die due to suicide every year. Suicide is the second leading cause of death in 15-29-year-olds. This helps sum up the fact that depression can be a factor in the worst kinds of deaths. Let what depression itself can do to a person. More than know people, especially the USA youth population is growing rapidly with depression. We need to recognize depression is worse than we thought and try to help those with it.

People with depression use and burn bridges to relationships faster because of the constant need for someone. The constant need of having someone to help you get through depression is challenging because those friends may get tired of the emotional drain on them. This can result in the person with depression feeling as if they are a burden on others. Ultimately, this is a no-win situation. The (WHO) World Health Organization states that relationships can be tough with someone with depression. The energy to hold yourself up and the energy to try to lend a hand to another can be too much and overwhelming.” If your partner is suffering from depression, they may be so overwhelmed by their symptoms that finding the energy to communicate feels impossible. As a partner or family member, it can be easy to find this draining and upsetting. You might become exhausted with the effort of feeling you need to support your partner and also keep up with running the house or looking after the rest of the family.”(Relate, Page 2) Your partner, your friend, should bring you energy every time you see their face. Not feel the scent of a chore. Not feel the overwhelming thoughts of being tired and overwhelming your friends. Not losing them fast because they're tired of trying to bring you up. Depression itself is devastating. The need for energy is craving. The emotions are mixing, and the last thing you need is for you to blame yourself for the cause of a friend not hanging out with you too much. Depression makes the person low energy and can be hard for people to stick with. A person with depression could think it's there personally and get in a deeper state of sadness. And in turn, the person with depression may begin to feel like a burden – as though they’re simply getting in the way and making the lives of those around them worse. They may be aware of the effects their depression is having on their relationships, but feel powerless to do anything about it. This can make them feel guilty, and lower their self-esteem even more. (Relate p.2) Depression can cause someone to feel guilty and lower their self-esteem because they don't have the energy or the mood to hang with someone. It's tough and that person with depression only gets backlash as they feel unworthy of good human interaction feeling they're just going to make someone's day worse. This sadly will only deepen their depression.

The opposing side may say depression is an excuse or depression is not bad it's only exaggerated. People may say depression is exaggerated because of how kids these days look for the “easy way out.” How could you blame depression for something we were not good at or to game all day because we're too tired to go outside. That is an understandable concern, however, kids wouldn't blame such devastating emotions to play video games all day. If they wanted to do that they wouldn't be tired! Depression is very common and devastating so blaming it on excuses to not do something is an outrage. Kids these days are getting confused with depression and being sad. They don't understand that using feel a little sad doesn't mean you're depressed. Being lazy isn't a crime. But it shouldn't be confused with serious mental illness either. Just because you're feeling particularly unmotivated one day to get out of bed, go to class or work, and do what's expected of you doesn't mean you're depressed”(Physio Centerlazy)Just because your feeling sad or tired doesn't mean you have the right to say you have depression all you do is blame depression when you should be blaming your work ethic. So making an excuse that depression is all that it is just kids being lazy. Depression is greatly exaggerated with our current generation. They exaggerate the fact that we blame suicidal thoughts for having depression. The two are greatly different there like light and darkness. If you're depressed, it's harder to make good lifestyle choices. You may not sleep or eat well, you may not get much exercise, or you may drink, smoke, or use drugs but suicidal thoughts are not common as depression doesn't always lead to that. This shows that depression is more common than suicidal thoughts showing that the thought of kids having depression means they have suicidal thoughts is greatly exaggerated. Kids these days think that problems are solved with excuses. Therefore they think if they feel sad they have suicidal thoughts when in reality they had a bad day. Furthermore, depression is greatly exaggerated and not as bad as it seems.

Depression, the state of deep sadness of which could cause personal or mental turmoil, needs to be reconsidered in society; it can cause low energy relationships and suicidal thoughts that put family and themselves in mental or physical danger. We need to recognize depression as not being lazy or having those “episodes” or it's all because of that phone in my day there was no depression. Depression causes people to change their view on their day, and may not want to hang around people because they're tired. Some may have suicidal thoughts, one of the most selfish dangerous things someone could think of. Depression could cause some to give up and game all day and give up in school because they're just done with it. Depression can cause terrible things and if we help those with it, and recognize their pain and struggle and help them find the light at the end of the tunnel we can impact millions. We need to take responsibility for helping those struggling. We Americans always talk of saving America and uniting us, but when a challenge comes we're the first to blow it off. Well, right now it's on our turf with one out of three Americans having it. We can help those with it and fight it. We can help 40 million people, we can show everyone how bad it is and how we can do more to help those with depression.
