Detective Club. Agatha Christie and Dorothy L. Sayers Essay Example

Crystie and Sayers were founding members of the best Detective Club in New York, always helping out the police and community. They went by the oath “ We shall always take on any case and solve it to the best of our abilities”. This is the oath that each new investigator had to take.

On a rainy Sunday morning the club had its weekly meeting, everyone discussed what that had done and achieved during the week. Then the lights cut out and it was pitch black three Gun shots went off, the lights came back on after a few minutes. It was Crystie she had been shot but still alive, an ambulance arrived and took her to the hospital. The police arrived and started questioning all the members. They went to check the security cameras but they were not working from five minutes before the incident. One of the members said that Sayers left to go to take a call a few minutes before the shooting. Another witness said that he saw Crystie and Sayers arguing outside a coffee shot earlier in the week.

The police had their first suspect.

When the club asked Crystie to try and solve the case she said “No, leave it to the police. The police said that we cannot help in this case.” The club found this very strange as she had Berber backed down from a mystery even when she had direct orders from the police. The group started investigating behind Crystie’s back. The next day they all went to visit Sayers in the hospital. She was almost fully recovered and then a police detective walked in and arrested Crystie. Everyone acted shocked but they knew she had to have done the crime. When in the interrogation room the detective asked who she was talking to and if she could prove it during the time she was away from the group. She explained that she was on the phone with her mother and showed her phone records. She said that Sayers was not there when she got back from the call. The police were shocked. This means that Sayers tried to get insurance money and attention by faking an attack on herself. 

They all rushed back to the hospital. Sayers was gone and she had escaped. The police asked the nurses and doctors if they saw her but no one said anything. He put a bolo out of Sayers car. Ten minutes of searching and the detective gets a call from dispatch with the last known location and direction of Sayers. Crystie said that Sayers is probably going to her wood cabin in the forest to hide. The police found where the cabin was and raided it. They found Crysitie handing a bag of money to a man with a gun. The police arrested them both.

Back at the detectives club Crystie called a meeting. She said she knew that they were investigating the case and that they all thought she did it. Crystie said that this will be her final meeting as she was stepping down as the groups Leader and they all knew that nothing would be the same again.
