Eco-Friendly Environment Essay Sample

Alex Nikolai Steffen’s argumentative article, “The Next Green Revolution” illustrates the dangers of climate change and persuades the general public to be more eco-friendly with the resources of technology.  His words intend to convince the general public to live a cleaner and more sustainable life. In his article, Steffen provides appealing options to help with environmental change including some main principles: efficiency and quality, renewable energy, and eco-safe designs. These are all satisfying and effective ways to evoke change.

One of the main ideas I have gathered from this article was that efficiency and quality equal change. Purchasing products that will actually be of service to a consumer lessens waste of money and materials. Proper usage of products is also important and it's wise to invest in the correct amount of product that you'll require. I agree with this point.  The earth and your bank account will thank you for this later. This is significant because it illustrates how much of our money and the Earth's resources we use. Reducing is the most effective out of the three R's (reduce, reuse, and recycle) and Steffen provides two ways on which reduction can be achieved.

Another main thought I have collected was that renewable energy should be the world’s power supply. Fossil fuels are damaging and temporary. The gases emitted from these fuels are injurious to our ozone layer. Fortunately, it is also replaceable. Steffen supplies the many types of renewable options such as wind turbines, solar arrays, and wave-power flotillas. As seen, the earth dispenses multiple forms of clean energy. It uses itself to provide energy to its civilians. I personally agree with this view because it gives multiple ways to replace this harmful source of energy. Renewable energy cannot be depleted and is much healthier for the earth and those that live in it. After reading this, I ask myself, “Why aren’t we using renewable alternatives instead of fossil fuels?” Therefore, I think Steffen’s keynote of this is very persuasive and appropriate for an argumentative article.

The last idea that has caught my attention was that environmentally safe designs greatly assist the earth. There are plenty of gadgets and items that we use everyday that contain harmful chemicals to the earth. When these pieces are done for use, they are sent to the dump, burned, or even littered across the planet. If this is how we dispose of things then we should at least find safe things to dispose of. Eco-safe designs in products, such as biodegradability, keep earth protected from dangerous substances. They break down into the earth in short amounts of time without releasing any unhealthy matter. Inventions with this feature maintain Earth’s soil, seas, air and animals. I concur with this because it provides an easy and effective way to help the earth. Although it may seem a little costly, our debt to Earth is quite huge. These key ideas of this article have stuck with me, because they are all convenient and accessible ways to help the blue planet.
