Bad quality of products can be a problem for the customers and the business because if the products a business produces are not up to the customers standards or are faulty then customers can spread the word around and give a business a bad reputation. Having good products can promote a brand through word of mouth and can create a strong brand image, however this can also be true for bad products which can create a bad reputation for a company.

An example of poor quality products is the HP touchpad which was an innovative idea for HP to make a tablet to compete with the Apple Ipad and customers thought it would give Apple a run for their money. The HP Touchpad was released in July 2011 but was discontinued almost immediately because of the quality of the product. Customers thought that this would be an innovative idea but it ended up costing $885 million in assets, $775 million to close down Web OS and it left investors cautious in investing in this company's products.

Having bad quality products can weaken customer relationships, damage the brand and can cause a loss in revenue. Customers have high expectations for products as they want the best but having a bad product can give a bad reputation for the business even if it was one failure. Ways companies can change bad quality of products is by Total Quality Management which is when management quality is all employees responsibility and creates high quality products because everyone is responsible for the production. Advantages of TQM are that it can reduce costs, increase work efficiency and customer satisfaction and reduce waste produced and errors. However, disadvantages to TQM are that it costs money to train employees to do the task, it can be very time consuming to introduce to the existing system and employees must believe in TQM for it to work.

In conclusion, Bad quality of products can affect a company in many ways including a bad reputation, weakened customer relationships, loss of revenue and many more. However there are also many ways to improve a business through these problems and learn from the mistakes to improve the business and the customer satisfaction. Bad quality products are a temporary problem and can easily be solved through training employees to work to the best of their ability.
