“According to National Geographic, an astonishing 91 percent of plastic doesn’t actually get recycled.” Learning this was shocking to me. The current recycling system is utterly inefficient. It relies on every recycling individual to properly clean their recyclables before disposing of them. All bottles that have not been thoroughly cleaned, alongside all other recyclables collected simultaneously, are taken to a junkyard instead of a recycling facility. Although there are still plenty of bottles disposed of correctly, there must be a better way to prevent the rest from polluting our planet. We need to restore bottles to their original state, sand. Instead of repurposing them at a facility in which they are unlikely to arrive in the first place, why not return them to their initial form right at home? Using my original take on recycling technology, I would install my machine in every household to use to turn glass back into sand, instantly giving it a new life and purpose.

The design of my technology makes it easily accessible yet thoroughly concealed. The machine blends seamlessly into your kitchen like any other appliance. It features a sliding door that opened reveals a space where bottles are placed and dropped into the machine. After being ground into a powder, it gets relinquished to a compartment below. A reusable cloth bag found in this compartment fills up with sand. The bag is accessible through a drawer that blends in with the rest of your cabinets under the machine. The effortlessly removable sandbag makes transportation easy, allowing the sand to be readily used for its many purposes.

In many ways, this revised system is more efficient than the original. The installation of this technology in homes will increase the likelihood of the bottles being cleaned properly. Since the sand will directly benefit the recyclers, they will be more likely to clean the bottles. However, there is no need for people to always find uses for their sand, as they can still get rid of it through recycling; all this does is reduce the work for recycling companies and ensures that the bottles are still clean and recyclable.

Although plenty of people believe recycling contributes to protecting the earth, people still want to see the direct results of their efforts. For others, on the other hand, recycling may not matter as much, and they may need different results to convince them to do so besides maintaining a healthy planet. This invention will be easier to use than recycling bottles and can be used to benefit them directly, rather than just contributing to the world as a whole. All users will benefit immensely from the sand. In addition to all the things it is helpful for in its natural state, such as sandboxes, sandbags, aquariums, and art projects, sand is also the most used natural resource after air and water in making products. Sand is beneficial in making soils, concrete, fertilizer fillers, sandpaper, and sand-lime bricks.

Marketing this item successfully would involve portraying it as a common household item that everyone should own alongside an oven and a stove. In contrast to a giant industrial machine that makes you feel like you are doing the recycling corporations' jobs for them, I would install it in a kitchen to make it feel like a product soon to be universally adopted. Recycling will feel like an effortless task instead of an inconvenient chore when integrated seamlessly into your kitchen.
