Equestrian Cover Letter

I've been interested in horses for as long as I can remember. I started riding when I was a little four-year-old and have continued to do it for the last thirteen years. With a strong love for equines, I was introduced to the sport of horse racing. I picked up a love for handicapping but also love the breeding behind the lovely thoroughbred. 

Being from upstate New York, I've got Saratoga Race Course a stone's throw away. I've spent every summer since I was born at the track. With having it so close to home, I have countless opportunities there. I was able to work for top trainer Todd Pletcher for the last two summers on the backstretch. I gained so much knowledge from both the business and labor-intensive sides of the industry. With that experience, I realized I want to be on the business side of the horse racing world. I enjoy behind the scenes of how a racing stable or farm operates, especially the business aspect of it.

Having this career aspiration is unique and searching or school's with an established equine program is difficult. DelVal has it all- the education, the equestrian and the experience I need in order to pursue my dreams. Through the equine management major, whether the focus is on business or media and communication, I will be able to further my education in a career field that not many are in. This university will give me everything I need to make it in the horse racing industry.
