Corn is a very valuable crop used in everyday life. Corn is a plant with many varieties grown in the U.S. Corn, also known as maize, is an adaptable plant species native to the United States. Corn has improved, has had a history and uses, and is used as food and fuel.

Corn has a very interesting history of where it was first grown and how it has improved. Corn was first cultivated thousands of years ago by the first inhabitants of North America. Corn is a very adaptable plant that can grow almost anywhere and because of this, it began to grow more popular. Over time, the plant started and people made new varieties of the plant which started to evolve. “The Structure of a Corn Plant” states,”Over time, humans developed varieties of corn plants for different uses.” .Now corn is used to feed humans, livestock, make medicine, preserve food, and to fuel engines.

Corn has had a long, important history with many uses that has made it the largest crop in the United States. Corn as we currently know it came from a wild grass called teosinte. “A Short History of a Special Plant” states, “Corn as we know it today started out as a wild grass plant called teosinte.” Teosinte was developed in corn by Native Americans in Mexico around five thousand years ago. Maize was a key crop for the early people of Central and North America. People made roofs out of the stalks, stuffed beds with silk, and made mats, beds, baskets, and dolls out of the husk.
