In the film the Hunger Games Mockingjay Part One by Francis Lawrence an important scene is the District 8 hospital being bombed by the capitol. This scene is about capitol bombing the innocent and wounded rebels of District 8. It is used to show us that no one is safe from the capitol and their mind tricks.

The first key technique is an establishing shot it used to show all the wounded and dying rebels in the hospital, surrounding Katniss using their left hand to form the mockingjay symbol to show that they suupport Katniss and will fight with her. This shows how courageous the rebels are and that even though they are wounded they are still continuing to fight for what they want. A technique that goes well with this technique is costume and prop, we see this with the stretchers and the bloody bandages, this symbols that even though they are at the edge they will still continue to fight and not give up. The director is teaching me that although they are all on the verge of dying they will not give up and keep persevering.

The second key technique is facial expressions they are used to show how Katniss is perplexed with the events that have just taken place we can see this as her eyes and eyebrows question the situation happening and the tears forming in the corners of her eyes indicating it has upset her. This shows that even though Katniss is portrayed as having a hard exterior and that was what pushed her over the edge. It also shows that Katniss is putting her own life at danger so that the rebels can live the fair life they deserve. A technique that goes well with this technique is special effects this shows the fire in the background and that katniss is seeing everything burn to the ground and collapse surround her. The director is trying to teach ne that the capitol will stop at nothing to make sure that everything is the way the desire it to be even if it means putting peoples emotions and lifes on the line.

The third key technique is dialogue, this is used as the hospital has just gone down in flames and katniss let the rebels know that she is alive and tells them that if she thinks the capitol will treat them fairly they are wrong “you know who they are and what they do” states Katniss about the capitol. Katniss leaves a message for president snow “you can torture us and bomb us and burn our districts to the ground, but you see this, fire is catching and if we burn you burn with us” Katniss spits with fury. This shows me that even though they are tired of what the capitol is doing and how they are treating them, they won’t go down without a fight and if they go down the capitol goes with them. A technique that goes well with this technique is a closeup where we can see Katniss’ facial expressions of anger, we see this through her narrowed eyes, furrowed brows and pursed lips we see her sadness through her tears sliding down her cheeks and her voice cracking while she speaks. The director is showing me that

The final key technique is lighting, we see this as they are showing Katniss’ propo video to Dirstrict 13, as they are watching the video it is completely dark apart from the shining of light from the video. This shows me that that video, Katniss is their hope, their light, their way out. That video makes them want to help fight for justice and protect what is left of their people. A technique that goes well with this technique is natural sounds, we hear this when the video has ended and there is loud cheering and applause accompanied by murmurs of agreement, implying they are ready to fight and put their lifes on the line. The director is teaching me that even in the darkest times there is a glimmer of hope if you look at something with the right mindset.

Overall this scene showed me that Katniss was willing to put her life on the line so that the rebels could finally live in peace and have freedom. Another thing I was shown from this scene was that perseverance and to keep moving forward could make a big difference and if you have the right mindset you can do anything you put your mind to.
