Since its founding PRISM has done too little to stop attacks from happening. The PRISM surveillance program goes too far violating our privacy and is ineffective in stopping attacks on the U.S. people. If the program really is spying on the U.S. people they should at least do their job.

The United States Constitution states that every citizen of the U.S. has a right to the freedoms of speech, press, and religious expression. The Constitution also states that no one can search possessions or property without warrant. Under these amendments it is implied that we as citizens of the U.S are entitled to the freedom of keeping our activities private from the government and others. While not directly violating any laws directly PRISM is still overstepping boundaries and unjustly taking advantage of U.S. citizens.

Furthermore, why are acts of terrism still taking place inside the U.S. if PRISM is given this much information on citizens. For instance, the mass shooting in Buffalo, New York could have been prevented if PRISM had acted in advance to prevent it from happening. Ten different victims had to die before their killer was apprehended. Ten different families will spend countless nights sobbing over loved ones, never able to forget the ones they’ve lost. The murderer posted online and in chat rooms about his intent beforehand and made statements online directly stating how he was going to harm black citizens. PRISM, an organization that collects and stores online data would have known about this and should have been able to prevent this from happening. The truly discouraging part is this is not the only incident where even basic intelligence could have been used to prevent these attacks, similar events have taken place in El Paso and Charleston before where the killer has made remarks online preluding the murders.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines acts of terrorism as “the systematic use of terror especially as a means of coercion”. If the PRISM organization is failing this badly then why should they be entitled to the U.S. peoples information when the information they do collect is not used to protect the people they are taking it from.
