Essay Example on How Big of a Role Does Education Play in Success

Everybody dreams of being rich. What would it be like to win the lottery, or to be a genius entrepreneur like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs? What does it take to get to the top? Many people think that an education is important to become successful, and I agree. I believe that a college education helps with success in life, as it can put you ahead of others in employment and it provides you with a deeper understanding of your profession. Before we dive into everything, I think that it’s important to determine how we’re defining “success in life.” Success in life is referring to financial success, though I believe a strong case could be made for education not being that important if you define “success” as just overall happiness in your life. 

A college-level education is not fully necessary to succeed in life. This standpoint completely goes against my argument, but it’s important to mention. A college education helps for security and comfort, but they are not necessarily a requirement. Some of the most successful people alive never graduated from college. Mark Zuckerberg, Steve Jobs, Dick Cheney, and Tiger Woods are all incredibly successful people, and they all either dropped out of college or didn’t go. As we have gathered, success is not synonymous with a college degree. However, going to college will help your chances of getting somewhere financially comfortable and successful. 

College degrees, although not being necessary for financial success, are important today. They can prioritize you over other people in job recruitment and interviews. After all, employers love to see a college degree when you apply for a job. It shows that you have the highest level of understanding. However, college doesn’t have to be the focal point of your education. After all, it’s becoming less and less affordable for people. However, earlier forms of education are free and are arguably even more important than college. Without a basic education, you wouldn’t know how to read, write, or speak. These early forms of school can help you grow into your own skin a bit better. Taking electives in school can help you find what your true interests are. You can also better find out how creative you are, and what interests you have. 

In conclusion, education is vital to being successful. It may not be present in every success story, but speaking realistically, an education will guide you to a more financially stable and successful life. Ripping education down to its barest form, it’s the process of receiving information and instruction. And more information is never a bad thing, as it can lead to you making smarter decisions for a better and more successful life.
