Essay Example on Negative Impacts of Violent Video Games

Do you think it is a good idea for the teenagers in our world to grow up playing violent video games?  I believe that violent video games influence teenagers to do terrible things because these games promote violence, worsen mental illnesses, and invoke murderers to kill. 

Violent video games promote violence.  These games could put criminal thoughts in one’s mind.  If someone continuously plays them, one may grow to think these thoughts are totally acceptable to carry out  in real life.  There is a lot of murder portrayed in violent video games.  Murder is not acceptable and never will be.  Young teenagers should not be exposed to such violence on a continuous basis.  Two-thirds of teenagers play these violent games.  There is way too much exposure to violent video games. 

Playing violent video games can worsen a mental illness.  Studies have shown that students who play high violence video games have significantly more depressive symptoms.  This is not good for the teenagers in our world.  It has been proven the games lead to extreme anxiety.  Anxiety is nothing to take lightly.  In July 2020, a 13-year old took his own life after losing to one of these violent video games.  We already have enough causes of suicide in the world.  Violent video games do not need to be added to that list of reasons.  

Violent video games invoke murderers to kill.  Devin Moore, who was 18, committed three acts of first degree murder.  His actions were reported to be a result of playing Grand Theft Auto.  There is a video game in which the goal is to rape a mother and her daughter and then kill them!  No game in this world should ever have  a goal of rape, then followed by murder.  Adam Lanza, who was obsessed with violent 

video games, gunned down 20 children and 6 teachers at Sandy Hook Elementary School.  Warren LeBlanc was jailed in 2004 for murdering a classmate with a knife and claw hammer after being obsessed with the game Manhunt.  It is obvious in these instances, violent video games can invoke murderers to kill.

Some people may say these violent video games are more fun.  Some might even say they just have more competition.  Well, I don’t think it is fun that a game reenacts the shooting at Columbine High School.  Who in their right mind would want to play a game where one would shoot up a school?  In another game the goal is to gun down African-Americans, Latinos, and Jews.  Racism is not acceptable and should not be condoned in any form!  These types of games need to be eliminated permanently.

As you can see, violent video games may cause teenagers to do terrible acts of violence.  These games are influencing teenagers to participate in criminal activities.  These violent games impact how teenagers think and socialize.  I challenge teenagers to put these games down and play something non-violent.  Have fun, but don’t patronize these violent video games due to their harmful effects!
