You may have wondered how night vision worked before I knew I had. I have always wondered how technical it was. I thought, is it simple or is it really hard and involves a lot of science? Well to answer that question it's a little bit of both there is quite a bit of science and technology involved in these night vision goggles and cameras but it's pretty simple at the same time. The main idea of night vision is using thermal imaging technology to see how much heat an object is giving off to see where everything is when it's dark. For example a lot of times hunting is really good at night especially when you're hunting for wild boar or “hogs” or you're hunting for rabbits. They can be really hard to see in pure darkness so a lot of hunters use thermal scopes to see Them better. Another example of using thermal technology is a “fish finder” it uses thermal technology to see objects heat and locate them so the fisherman can see where the fish are. A Lot of soldiers in the army use night vision goggles to see at night.

The main idea of night vision is using thermal imaging technology to see how much heat an object is giving off. When it is dark it is obviously hard to see where things are but when you use a thermal imaging technology device you can see where everything is while being in the dark. The idea of thermal imaging technology is to see how much heat an object is giving off but you may be wondering how we see the heat an object is giving off? Well, “a thermal camera is a non-contact device that detects infrared energy (heat) and converts it into a visual image” (Teledyne flir). “These special infrared  cameras do not work like your everyday cameras The regular cameras and your human eye go off of the same basic ideas, The visible light hits something bounces off of it and a detector receives it making into a normal image. A thermal Camera on the other hand  makes pictures by heat, non-visible light. These High tech cameras capture infrared light and collect the data and create images”(Teledyne flir 1). “A thermal camera is made up of a lens, a thermal sensor, processing electronics, and mechanical housing. The lens focuses infrared energy onto the sensor. The sensor can range from 80 x 60 to 1280 x 1024 pixels or More. This is the resolution of the camera” (Teledyne flir 1).

A lot of hunters, fisherman, and military soldiers also use night vision. Hunters use thermal scopes to hunt ”hogs” or wild boar, coyotes, rabbits and other varmits at night. This is actually a really popular method of hunting because a lot of these animals are really active at night and it's a really good time to hunt them. So a lot of hunters use thermal technology to locate and kill these animals. A lot of fishermen use thermal technology to locate the fish around them to try and catch them. It is really hard to see underwater especially when the water gets deeper so fishermen use night vision monitors to locate the fish around them and try to find a “honey hole”. A lot of military soldiers use night vision goggles to not only see people in the dark but even to see people behind walls during the day the “newer night vision camera can see people behind walls as thick as 4 feet”(teledyne flir 3).

You may have wondered how night vision worked before I knew I had. I have always wondered how technical it was. I thought, is it simple or is it really hard and involves a lot of science?
