As an athlete you are constantly looking for equipment and apparel to improve your game. With cheap equipment you cannot get the same quality of performance. My own personal experience for soccer is I prefer Nike over Adidas when it comes to cleats. I prefer Nike over Adidas when it comes to apparel and clothing because I like their designs and fits better. On the contrary, Nike’s cleats cause severe blisters and subdural hematomas, which can cause toe nail loss, ew! I currently own black Nikes and am in desperate need for a change because my heels are currently destroyed from the season. Unfortunately since I am living the broke college student life I cannot afford new shoes right now so I just have to power through as many other athletes would. I often think about how it could be so much worse, like an injury. Although I shop based on quality and look of the product I also feel that the brand itself is important too. Nike is built off of its slogan, “Just Do It.” I feel this is a great mindset for athletes as in many sports there is often hesitation and over thinking.

I chose Nike’s comercial because it felt inspiring to me as an athlete and target audience. Nike is a very well known company that reaches internationally and sponsers thousands of Athletes. The purpose of the video is to encourage athletes to buy from their brand by inspiring them and featuring professional athletes.

Nike also utilizes emotion to inspire and motivate the audience. The concept of the video, “Never Too Far Down,” is describing how even professionals have bad days where they lack motivation or cannot preform. This creates equal ground between young athletes that look up to these players. Even though you may feel you failed one day there is always the next day to succeed. At rock bottom there is no way to go but up. Even when there are a million excuses to give up or take it easy you should never give up. This is very much intertwined with the “Just Do It” mindset, as sports are reactionary and don’t require thinking. It is like driving, once you take the same route over and over again you can almost feel as if you are in autopilot. Nike uses professional athletes like LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Serena Williams to reach a variety of young athletes of all different sports. In other words it adds credibility as these featured athletes agree to the statements being made by Nike for their followers to see. I remember a time where I was obsessed with Cristiano Ronaldo to the point that whatever brands he supported I wanted to as well. I still find that I become curious when one of my favorite athletes collaborate or promote a brand. For example, one of my favorites to watch right now is Ian Happ for the Chicago Cubs baseball team. He currently has partnered with Connect Roaster to create Quaratine Coffee. Using his platform as a new starter for the Cubs he can encourage his fan base to support his company which also raises money for Covid relief. Nike uses this same Marketing plea in most of their ads to encourage sales.

Overall, Nike does a great job at advising their brand through famous athletes and videography. The nostalgia alone is enough to encourage me to buy their product. The feeling of being an athlete, the feeling of success, and the feeling of winning. All athletes may fail often but only the greatest and most true athletes know never to give up.
