Essay Example: The Pacific War

The United States had become extremely powerful even before. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, and Coast Guard are all-powerful and fearsome. The Americans have always chosen to remain neutral in other nations where they legitimately want peaceful coexistence, yet they were enraged when the Japanese unleashed a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. The surprise attack on Pearl Harbor was the catalyst for America's entry into World War II. Before I demonstrate how US powers won the Pacific War, I will first explain why the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor and what their aims were.

At the time of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hideki Tojo was a general in the Japanese army. While in imprisonment, Tojo wrote a diary in which he detailed the logic behind invading the United States, as well as other aspects of the war. According to Tojo, Japan determined to declare war on America and England on December 1st. The ultimate purpose of Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor was to start a war with the United States. Tojo went so far as to write out replies to questions he expected to be asked during an interrogation. One such issue concerned the rationale for launching a war on America. Tojo and many of his colleagues came to the conclusion that war was the ultimate choice for Japan's long-term survival. They assumed that Japan would be attacked as a result of its fragile relationship with America. As a preventive step against being attacked first, Pearl Harbor was attacked in order to start a war with America. Of course, the Americans will not forfeit as a result of this. They fought back and refused to surrender to the Japanese. The Americans used patriotism as a weapon and key to winning the Pacific War. The Americans would fight to the last man. The clever Navy Codebreakers and gutsy soldiers helped the Americans win the Pacific War.

The Americans demonstrated their combat prowess. Early in 1942, US Navy cryptanalysts began breaking Japanese communication codes, and they knew for weeks that Japan was planning an attack in the Pacific at a place known only as "AF." The Navy decided to send out a phony message from the base, stating it was out of freshwater because they suspected it was Midway. Soon later, Japan's radio operators sent out an identical warning regarding "AF," confirming the impending attack's location. Meanwhile, from the US carriers Hornet and Enterprise, a wave of Devastator torpedo bombers came to bombard the Japanese ships. Nearly all of them were shot down by Japanese Zero aircraft because they were not accompanied by fighter planes. However, when the Japanese refueled and rearmed their planes, another wave of American carrier-launched bombers slammed, laying fire to three Japanese carriers—Akagi, Kaga, and Soryu. In response, Hiryu, Japan's remaining carrier, unleashed two rounds of strikes on Yorktown, which was forced to leave the ship but stayed afloat. All three carriers' dive-bombers returned to strike the Hiryu, setting it on fire as well, and putting all four Japanese carriers out of operation.

When the Americans won the Battle of Midway, they demonstrated once again that they are not frightened of everything and would fight hard for the nation they cherish. The Battle of Midway was a significant naval battle conflict between the United States and the Imperial Japanese Navy during World War II. It took place from the 4th to the 7th of June 1942. This was six months after the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor and a month after the Battle of the Coral Sea. A Japanese raid on Midway Atoll (northwest of Hawaii) was repulsed by the US Navy, which destroyed four Japanese aircraft ships and a strong cruiser. The Americans won the battle by a huge margin.  The Imperial Japanese Navy was weakened for the rest of the war as a result of the engagement. Imperial Japanese Navy forces withdrew after the loss. Japan lost four of its six carriers, as well as hundreds of its greatest pilots. This halted the Japanese Empire's progress in the Pacific.

The United States successfully conquered and evicted Japan due to these techniques and the forces that fought in the past. Japan's ambition to be a dominant country in Asia has yet to be accomplished. All Americans, men, and women, white or non-white, contributed to the annihilation of the Japanese forces. The United States of America is a symbol of vigor, intelligence, and patriotism.
