I think that students should be allowed to participate in political and social protests. Students have different perspectives on things and have the creativity and energy to bring new ideas that can lead to positive changes in the world. Nevertheless, there are also others that think students shouldn’t focus on protests and instead focus on their education. There are many instances where students have participated in protests and created change in our society.

First off I believe that students should be allowed in protests because everyone is a citizen of their country so they could avoid dictatorship. One example is Greta Thunberg’s protest against climate change. Thunberg took her group of protesters to the Swedish Parliament and signed an open letter demanding the European Union to make some changes to slow global warming like stopping investments in fossil fuels. This means that ever since Greta Thunberg started her protest it encouraged others to participate and ended up leading to positive changes in the European Union.

Another example from a group of protesters in Fort Atkinson. High Schoolers and adults marched around Barrie Park to protest for racial equality. Carson Hessnor from Fort Atkinson High School says, “Today I felt very productive, we proved that we don’t stand for racism in this community...I know I have the ability to express that so I will do it.” This shows that these students felt they had the confidents and power to fight for the thing that they believe in.

Here many people may object that students are too young and inexperienced in life and should focus on school instead of going to social protests. While it is true that students do skip school to participate and are young, this doesn’t mean that they can’t show interest and stand up for what they believe in. Showing up to protests allows students to identify matters of importance in our society so that they can help address these issues and help solve them. With students being young, this can allow for them to be more experienced and smarter for what may come in the near future.

Because of some of these student protests, there have been changes that benefit our society, therefore, students should be allowed to participate in protests. Having students protest will make them experienced and make them have a bigger impact .
