Essay on Advantages of School Uniforms

The United States congress should pass a law that all schools in the United States need to wear a uniform to school because wearing uniforms to school increases safety and will promote learning. In addition to that it will reduce bullying . While some parents argue that Students lose their self identity when they lose their right to express themselves through fashion. Wearing uniforms to school will help students focus more on their studies,when all the students are wearing uniforms students will focus more on their education it will keep everyone on the same page.

According to the US Department of Education, “wearing a uniform can decrease the risk of violence and theft, instill discipline and help school officials recognize intruders who come to the school.”  This means that students will feel much more safer and less worrying about violence in school since the staff can recognize the students.

School uniforms will promote learning because when everyone is wearing the same uniform, students can really focus on their learning, rather than the variety of clothes and accessories among peers. According to The Bossier Parish School Board in Louisiana enacted a uniform policy in 2001 in order to increase test scores and reduce disciplinary problems. This proves that school uniforms can significantly improve grades and students academic performance.

As I mentioned earlier school uniforms not only prevent violence but also prevent bullying at school because students feel like they belong and seeing everyone wearing the same uniform gives them a sense of belonging. According to the US Department of Education, school uniforms reduce bullying by 30-50%. Even though some people may argue that clothes are fashionable and they help students express their identity, I still believe when going to school students should wear uniforms since there are tons of benefits to uniforms including safety, preventing violence and bullying. People need to understand that uniforms help students do better academically and help them feel accepted in addition to that uniforms make the school more safe. So why not make a slight change that could change the educational environment for the better. We should speak more about it and the government should recognize that one way to make a student feel loved and accepted is by requiring uniforms since that could be a sign that everyone is viewed equally.
